Congratulations on taking the first step in what can seem like a daunting process. Finding a therapist can seem overwhelming and it’s important that you connect with someone you can trust, someone you don’t feel judged by and someone who will be equally invested in your growth. Founded in 2014, our mission is to help young professionals in New York City and surrounding areas to improve the quality of their lives, feel empowered in their decision making, and become their most confident and authentic selves. We understand the stressors, barriers and mental/emotional blocks that can make it a challenge for us to unlock our potential and live our best lives, but also believe that we all have a unique set of strengths, skills and abilities to help us overcome them. Our goal is not to give you the answers, but rather to provide insight and unlock information that will help us discover the answers together and to leave you with techniques and resources that will allow you to conquer future obstacles with confidence. If you feel like working together might benefit you, please feel free to call or email us to schedule an appointment or a free phone consultation so we can decide together on the right set of tools to help you. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

One of the biggest sources of stress, anxiety, burnout & life dissatisfaction is a lack or a perceived lack of control over our energy.⚡️
When we invest our energy into things that aren’t in alignment with our goals and values, spend more of it on other people than on ourselves and/or are spending an excess amount of energy without also taking the time to recharge our batteries, it’s inevitable that stress & anxiety will take over — eventually leading to burnout and in extreme cases, life dissatisfaction & depression.
🤔💭So how do we protect it? Here are some places to start. ➡️➡️➡️

Don’t get me wrong – self-care on Sundays IS important, especially if it tends to be a high anxiety day for you. But if you’re only practicing self-care on Sundays, you’re more likely to dread the rest of the week and the days that you aren’t making that time/space for yourself. If we swing from one extreme to another (a full day of self-care vs. none at all), it’s going to keep our mood and anxiety levels swinging to extremes, too.
Instead, incorporate at least 30 minutes of non-negotiable self-care into every day. Prioritize this the same exact way that you would prioritize an important work meeting or doctor’s appointment. It’s important that the self-care activities you choose are aligned with your needs in each moment and to be flexible vs. rigid about the way you spend that time.
Depending on the day, your self-care need might be: rest, movement, organization, socialization, productivity, reflection, learning, etc. Have a ‘toolbox’ of optional self-care activities and use the ones you need each day vs. forcing an inflexible self-care routine on yourself that starts to feel like a chore.

…but it is not a less important one. It’s just that anger can alert us to other, deeper emotions we might be experiencing under the surface and are perhaps unable to recognize. For example: feeling misunderstood, hurt, disappointed, embarrassed, uncomfortable, stressed, etc. often shows up as anger. Because sometimes anger feels easier. Safer. Sometimes anger was the primary emotion that we saw/learned growing up, so it’s more familiar and therefore easier to express. Sometimes anger protects our ego when expressing the deeper emotions underneath it feels too vulnerable. So next time you feel the anger bubbling up, get curious and ask - what else is going on here? What other emotions are accompanying this anger? And what do I need to do to take care of myself in this moment?

Too often we put pressure on ourselves to make decisions for our future selves even though we haven’t met them yet & can’t possibly know what they’ll want. In our careers, we try to figure out “what we want to do when we grow up” or in relationships, we try to assess if someone is a compatible life partner for us. And when we’re making these assessments, it’s based on who we are & what our goals are in this very, present moment.
The truth is, we have no way of knowing how we’ll feel & think, what we’ll want, what life will be like or if the decisions we make today will still align with us 1/5/10 years down the road. We can spend our energy mapping out our lives only to later realize it’s no longer what we want. And while that’s scary, it also takes some pressure off of us & gives us room to grow, change and evolve.
All we can do is make the decisions that feel best to us NOW. All we have to do is figure out the best NEXT thing. We don’t have to fully understand where that thing leads to or dwell over what might happen if it doesn’t pan out as we hope. We just have to use our instincts as a compass and allow them to continuously guide us each single step of the way through this crazy journey of life.
