The Long Term Care Community Coalition (LTCCC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to improving quality of care, quality of life, and dignity for elderly and disabled people in nursing homes, assisted living and other residential settings. LTCCC focuses on systemic advocacy, researching relevant national and state policies, laws and regulations in order to identify relevant issues a

nd develop meaningful recommendations to improve quality, efficiency and accountability. In addition to providing a foundation for advocacy, LTCCC uses this research and the resulting recommendations to educate policymakers, consumers and the general public. Consumer, family and LTC Ombudsman empowerment are fundamental to our mission.

Many individuals and families are navigating the challenges of dementia — often while balancing work and other responsibilities. Whether you are a caregiver, professional, advocate, or simply someone looking to better understand dementia, access to clear and practical information can make a meaningful difference.

As part of our Dementia Care in the Community initiative, we are pleased to share a set of free, practical resources designed to support people living with dementia and those who care for them.

This online toolkit offers accessible, evidence-informed tools that can be used at home, in community settings, or in care environments. The toolkit is:

These findings – combined with investigative reporting and longstanding LTCCC research – underscore a troubling reality: despite more than a decade of federal initiatives, inappropriate drugging of nursing home residents remains widespread, underreported, and largely unchecked.

The federal Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987 says “Quality of life is a fundamental principle that applies to all care and services provided to facility residents…” Your local ombudsman is available to educate and empower residents to express their needs and help resolve issues that affect quality of life.
