Finasteride and fertility — what should you know?

Finasteride can rarely affect fertility, which is why timing matters.
If you know you’re facing fertility challenges, it may not be the right moment to start finasteride. However, for patients already taking it without known fertility concerns, continuing is generally considered acceptable.

If fertility challenges arise and no other cause is identified, stopping finasteride may be part of the discussion.

It’s also important to know:
• Pregnant women should not handle finasteride pills
• Care should be taken with topical finasteride or minoxidil, as transfer through bedding or surfaces is possible

Choosing between oral vs. topical treatments should always be done thoughtfully — especially when pregnancy is involved.
