The Bowery Collective

The Bowery Collective Mind expansion through intelligent discourse.

01/12/2017

With Donald Trump on the verge of being sworn in as President of the United States of America, it is time to take a moment and rethink our values and priorities.

We appear to be facing a new chapter in American history and the world at large. Are we truly facing a runaway kleptocracy that will also act savagely against women's reproductive rights, take away medical care and education from the poor and underprivileged, and ignore the climate catastrophe looming over our species? What kind of counter-force can emerge to deal with this situation? Do we need some type of "spiritual revolution" that encompasses business, the arts, media, technology, and so on, but uses these as tools for a positive reinvention of our society? Will we have the courage of our convictions and our values, or will we stand idly by as the extreme right crushes dissent, assaults immigrant rights, starts a new nuclear arms race, and so on?

Let's discuss!

Please RSVP as space is limited.
$10 suggested donation (or bottle of wine!) to cover costs.

Please join us next Monday night, October 5, as The Bowery Salon will convene a dialogue on how we work together to confront accelerated climate change and the Sixth Great Extinction. This event will take place at the Soho Arts Club.

Our guests include film director Darren Aronofsky, known for Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream, and recently visited the Alaskan tar sands with Leonardo DiCaprio; Veronique Pittman, Chief Information Officer for the Green Schools Alliance; and Alexander Frantzen, who created the website, EnergyWeNeed.com, and Summer Rayne Oaks, TV host and entrepreneur working on creative solutions to environmental challenges.

According to scientists, we have a short window of time to make significant changes to our social and technical infrastructure if we want human civilization to continue in anything close to its current form. There are many available solutions - in energy, agriculture, waste management, and other areas - that must be scaled up quickly. Some of these solutions present extraordinary entrepreneurial opportunities, although humanity may also have to embrace a period of shared sacrifice so we reduce our burden on the Earth.

Moderators will be Daniel Pinchbeck , New York based writer of Breaking Open the Head, and Samir Victor, managing partner of FullCycle Energy Fund, a fund investing in waste-to-energy technologies.

There will be a suggested $20 donation. This event will take place at the Soho Arts Club whom have generously offered their space. We have capacity issues and only those who have RSVPed will be allowed entry.
