Keys to staying hydrated all summer!

Staying hydrated is important all year, but especially when those summer months come around. Dehydration can lead to confusion, mood changes, constipation, kidney stones, changes in blood pressure, and higher body temperatures, not to mention digestive side effects.

Daily fluid intake recommendations vary by age, gender, activity level, and presence of a chronic or an acute health condition. Under regular circumstances, daily water intake should be about 2.7 liters (91 ounces) for women and 3.7 liters (125 ounces) for men.

Water alone is not the sole source of hydration. Hydration can be obtained via certain foods. For instance, cantaloupe, cucumbers, strawberries, and spinach have the highest water content.

Consuming more fruits and vegetables, which have added natural vitamins and fiber, is a great supplement to help us maintain adequate fluid levels, reduce IBS symptoms and boost bowel health.

4 Low-FODMAP Snack Ideas to Stay Full and Satisfied 😁

Snacks play a huge role in our daily lives and for many they keep us going through our daily work and play. However, it can be hard to find the correct snacks that will provide you with sustained energy and keep you full.

Here are 5 key components snacks need to keep you feeling full and satisfied:

1️⃣ Protein: It helps you feel more full by reducing your level of the hunger hormone, ghrelin.

2️⃣ Carbs: Helps to regulate blood sugar and increases our mood.

3️⃣ Fat: These are last to leave the digestive tract and provide satiety.

4️⃣ Fiber: These take longer to digest, help release satiety hormones, and delay stomach emptying.

5️⃣ Variety: Keeping a variety of snacks will help cure certain cravings and make your day more interesting!

If your snacks haven't been providing you with the satisfaction you deserve try incorporating one of the ideas listed above!

*Note: An unripe banana (100g) is low in oligo-fructans, making it safe to eat on a low FODMAP diet. A ripe banana is high in oligo-fructans, making it high in FODMAPs. However, a third of a ripe banana (33g) should be tolerated by most individuals with IBS.
*Your choice of milk should be lactose-free.

Adding flavor to your meals without adding symptoms 🙌.

If you feel like your meals are getting repetitive, taste plain, or feel boring try incorporating some of these tips.

1️⃣ Use an Infused Oil: FODMAPs are not fat-soluble, meaning they cannot leach into the oil. This allows you to flavor your oil with the infusion of garlic or your favorite herb without actually consuming the high FODMAP foods (or, specifically, without consuming the fructans).

2️⃣ Add some Citrus: Lemon juice is one of our favorite ways to add flavor to a dish or sauce – and it happens to be low FODMAP in a ½ cup serving!

3️⃣ Make Your Own Spice Blend: While many pre-mixed seasonings often contain onion powder or garlic powder, you do not need to succumb to bland meals. Instead, add your own blend of seasonings! For a savory flavor without the onion and garlic, you can use asafoetida powder (also known as hing powder).
