Still me.

I've thought a lot about my handle since I entered this space. While I'll continue talking about weddings, my focus is also on relationships. About how we love. Even though we learn long division and grammar in school, we don't learn what it takes to help our relationships thrive. So I'm changing my name. My goal is for all of us to find ways to love ourselves, and each other -- our friends, family, and romantic partners -- with compassion, empathy, and yes, smarts. So with that, I'm back as .smart_.

Insta and Pinterest help us idealize the idea of rolling with our crew on the wedding day. But not everyone has a ready-made crew. And that’s ok.
Not everyone has friends who get along with each other. That’s ok. Not everyone has friends who can support you in the way you need. That’s ok.
Make sure you decide whether having bridesmaids, groomsmen, or best people is right for you, not just your pictures.
If the drama will be too much, If you’re afraid of looking inadequate – try to give yourself permission to be who you are.

How do you deal with it when your parents are taking over? I had the honor of speaking with Annakeara Stinson of in late October.
I focused more on the money side of things here — how to deal in a scenario where your parents really can’t cede control. It can be a really hard situation when your parents can’t respect your wishes.
Beyond that, I encourage you to think beyond whatever’s immediately going on if your parents or in-laws are being controlling. What other meanings does this have for them? It’s not an excuse for bad behavior, but it can offer you some understanding of why they might be reacting this way. ✨ @ New York, New York

Had so much fun doing an impromptu photo shoot with some of the kindest and most knowledgeable people in the wedding industry. Not only are they incredibly talented, but they were gracious enough to let me spend the afternoon with them. 📸 for these wonderful shots, and many thanks for hosting the Groom’s Lounge today as part of Wedding Weekend on Madison Avenue. @ Isaia

Cold hard fact: when people aren’t free to be themselves, their mental health suffers.
The mental toll it takes to hide your sexuality contributes to depression, anxiety, and more. Why?
Shame.
Stigma.
Fear.
If you’re LGBTQ, I see you and I’m here for you. Whether or not you’re out, whether you’re questioning, whatever the case.
My handle has “wedding” in it — something that is, unfortunately, still too heteronormative. Many people who follow my page are in hetero relationships. And that’s fine. If that’s you, please make space in your life and in your heart for people who aren’t. Make yourself safe for someone to disclose to. Don’t pry: just be there.
