Repeat after me, "WE ALL HAVE BIASES!"😮 It is completely normal to have preconceived notions about your own reference group or other reference groups. These ideas are taught to us by our families, friends, religious/cultural organizations, etc. 🤯
The important WORK and BEAUTY in all of this is that we get to CHALLENGE what has been taught to us by looking and reflecting inward and allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. 😍
It is not about having the "politically correct" or "right answer" all the time. Rather, it's about acknowledging that perhaps you were taught biased information that could be detrimental and downright dangerous in your interactions with people who are different from you. It is also about acknowledging which structural systems support these biased views.
Once you get a handle on all of this, the hope is that it will empower and spur you to take action and become an ALLY!
I encourage you to take a look at the questions in the slide as an opportunity to reflect on your own biases regarding the LGBTQIA community.
❓What has your Ally journey looked like?
❓What are some messages that you've received about different groups that were just untrue?
❓How are you working to dismantle oppressive systems?
