Étude Arts celebrates Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, Countertenor who dons his armor and laurel for the title role of Handel’s Giulio Cesare in a debut at Les Arts, València with performances February 28 through March 13. In a new production staged by Vincent Boussard and with haute couture designs by the famous French designer Christian Lacroix, these performances mark the first collaboration for the American-German countertenor with the renowned French maestro, Marc Minkowski, as well as the artist’s debut in Spain. The opening program presents the premieres of The Inner Core, from AMOC* co-founder and MacArthur Fellow Matthew Aucoin, and Camino Songs, by composer-instrumentalist-poet Doug Balliett. With performances February 21 through March 1, and set against the Lavender Scare, a te****le of the anti-communist, McCarthy-era political inquisition that purged LGBTQ+ people from government jobs, “Fellow Travelers gets straight to the heart of what it means to love somebody and be betrayed by somebody you love,” said director Kevin Newbury. “And to be oppressed by the system in which you live and work.” TOI TOI TOI!!!
