“Advanced Practice in Invisalign” seminar at Invisalign’s new facility in Morrisville, NC! 🦷👩🏻‍⚕️🤓
Small-group seminars with renowned Invisalign speakers were fun and informative, and getting to meet and share experiences with other passionate orthodontists was also a great experience!

And of course my favorite part was getting to hang out with my favorite NYU ortho colleagues like the good old days 🙋🏻‍♀️🗽💜 It was definitely worth my 3.5 hours-delayed flight back to New York at 6am..! ✈️

“Mini-implant assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE)” is an innovative treatment technique developed recently which can treat cases that used to require jaw surgery - for expanding the constricted maxilla (upper jaw) in non-growing adults! 💀💥🔩

In growing children, conventional maxillary expander treatment is common to treat narrow maxilla. However, this cannot be done in adults where midpalatal suture that holds the maxillary bone fuses as growth stops.

While conventional expander uses the teeth as anchor units, MARPE uses mini-implants to directly apply forces to the midpalatal suture, rather than to the teeth. In this way, MARPE minimizes undesirable side effects of the conventional expander, such as tipping of teeth and gum recession associated with the tipping, and so it achieves greater true skeletal expansion.

Placing the MARPE along with four mini-implants takes less than an hour and is done only with local anesthesia. Then patient will be activating the expander at home, and expansion will be completed within 3-6 weeks and either braces or Invisalign can be started!

Look how much true skeletal expansion is achieved without any dental tipping or gum recession, and without jaw surgery! 💀🦷🤓

New York passed a pandemic milestone with 70% of adults having received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. To celebrate COVID-19 restrictions being lifted, New York hosted statewide fireworks shows this evening. 🗽🍎🚕🎆

Let’s keep in mind that mask requirements remain in effect in New York for pre-K-12 schools, public transit, and healthcare settings in accordance with CDC guidelines. 😷😷
