The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is a national initiative designed to train everyday residents to help themselves, their families, and their neighbors in the event of a disaster. In the critical minutes or hours before professional responders arrive, CERT members are often the first line of support in a neighborhood. Newark CERT invites you to learn more about their efforts at their Open House on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Newark Senior Center, 7401 Enterprise Blvd.
At the Open House, you’ll meet instructors, see demonstrations of the kinds of skills CERT teaches, and talk with current volunteers about their experiences. It’s a great way to find out what CERT is all about before committing to the full Academy.

Some pictures of our June training - Shelter Management.
We have learned from the Red Cross how to set-up, operate and stand-down a shelter in our community.
Both Newark and Union City CERT teams worked very well together, and we had fun learning about shelter set-up and operations.
