Good morning. I need your help! I am working with a gentleman who is in long term recovery. He is opening a sober living in his suburban town. The town officials are trying to block it. They are saying that the lot is zoned for single family homes only. We are arguing that this is a single family home. The six men would use the same entrance, they would have the same key, share rooms, eat at the same table, have the same rules, share bathrooms... We are arguing that they are a blended family, like many other families on the block, it's not traditional mom dad kids but it's a family. We know that sober living is needed. Many times individuals can't return home after treatment because their blood families don't understand the disease, they may have been hurt, the family home is not conducive to successful recovery or they just need more structure and to live with their brothers who have the same disease and a goal to get better. If you have had a positive experience with sober livings, would you please email me a letter describing it? Share how this was a home to you or to your loved one?
This is so sad, because sober livings are needed in suburban areas, keeping them in urban areas near the drug dealing makes no sense. PS - this town has a large sign saying "Stigma Free Town". Thank you for your help! rlhealthguide@gmail.com

Come out and support THE BLACK POSTER PROJECT . A great opportunity to begin the substance use prevention conversation with your child. The Black Poster Project is a traveling exhibit that shows the devastation of substance use. It will be at First Baptist Church of Caldwell in Saturday October 26th 12-2pm.
