Shingles Is a disease caused by varicella virus. Everyone who had chicken pox in their life may develop shingles in the future which is a painful rash that appears mostly on the left or right side of the body, the rash can also appear on the face, it can affect the eye and can cause visual loss. The pain may persist for months even after the rash has disappeared and this is called post herpetic neuralgia which is treated with medications to relieve the pain.
Shingles is treated with anti viral and pain medications .
Prevention is a good option for people who had chicken pox as a child .Prevention consist of vaccines usually given after the age of 50 or 2 months after 1st episode of shingles to prevent re occurrence.
