“Yea, they say ‘it’s normal’ to feel this way…but what do I still DO about it?”
This is all too common. Talk therapy is great, reassurance and validation helps but only gets you so far. But what happens to you also happens to the body and the body needs to be included in the processing sessions.
As an emotional deep feeling woman, I found great relief in yoga and mindfulness when it taught how to find groundedness & equanimity in grief, anxiety etc…but it still left a hole about what TO DO with these emotions.
Over time it started to feel like spiritual bypassing leaving me feeling numb, unaccountable in a victim place. Not to mention the emotions would still come up eventually just as strong as they did before. It kept me in a cycle from becoming the woman I envisioned myself to be.
So often we are told it’s normal to feel things but that doesn’t help us move past it. If we suppress them, the emotions still live in our body and mind.
According to Ayurveda philosophy, illness begins with emotions. If left unaddressed it will embed deeper in our tissues to become a physical illness.
Emotions are important to address. It wasn’t until I found an Embodiment modality that I found the missing piece I was looking for. Being held and guided by someone trained in this to go into the dark uncomfortable feelings gave the safety I needed to learn how to do it myself.
Negative feelings are powerful. And under them we can unleash the same charge of power, but in its positive form.
We can’t heal alone. There’s great comfort and power in being held & witnessed.
