The holidays are about family, gratitude, and being together. We encourage you to take the step and talk about kidney donation with the ones you love.

We know this conversation can feel overwhelming, but Thanksgiving offers a unique, supportive environment to share your need with people who love you most.

You can share your journey, offer resources and information, and lead with the gratitude: "I'm so thankful to be spending the holiday with all of you. My biggest wish is to be healthy enough for many more holidays, and a transplant would make that possible."

We're here to help! Reach out to the team today to help you with crafting these conversations!

Today is the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout! If you smoke, we encourage you to join in the smokeout and quit today!

Smoking plays a role in the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). With diabetes and high blood pressure being the two leading causes of CKD, stopping smoking can help you maintain more kidney function.

Today is World Kindness Day, a time to celebrate the power of compassion in action!

While kindness comes in many forms—a smile, a kind word, a helping hand—we at the ChristianaCare Kidney Transplant Program are privileged to witness one of the most profound acts of kindness imaginable: Living Kidney Donation.

A living donor selflessly steps forward to give a healthy kidney, transforming a life and offering a second chance. It’s a gift fueled by pure generosity, love, and compassion.

To all our amazing donors: You embody the true spirit of kindness. To everyone in our community: How will you spread kindness today? Whether big or small, every act of goodwill makes the world—and our transplant community—a better place.

On this Veterans Day, we celebrate the profound commitment to service that defines our nation's heroes.

For U.S. Army Veteran Timothy Letts, that dedication didn't end with his service—it led him to perform the ultimate act of kindness: donating a kidney to a complete stranger, Bill Sumiel.

Their journey began with a chance Uber ride and ended in a life-saving transplant right here at the ChristianaCare Kidney Transplant Program (CCKT). It's a powerful reminder that service often comes in the most unexpected ways.

It started with an Uber ride. Bill Sumiel, in his 70s with a history of diabetes, was heading home from the Vascular Institute in Vineland, New Jersey, where he had been treated for a blood clot. His driver was Timothy Letts of Cape May, New Jersey, who was in his 30s and in great health. […]

Why Choose the Kidney Transplant Program at Christiana Care?

Each year, more than 1,000 patients rely on Christiana Care’s expert team of doctors and nurses for complete kidney transplant care. This includes:

Kidney transplant evaluation You will receive an initial evaluation and comprehensive testing to assess your overall health. You will also have the opportunity to meet with several of our team members. Our team works as a committee to determine if you are a good candidate for the kidney transplant list.

Wait list care Once you are on the wait list, we will connect with you monthly to check on any changes to your health status and any results you receive from outside tests (cardiology tests, CT scans, etc.). We encourage proactive communication.
