Sirach 5:1-8

1 Do not set your heart on your wealth, nor say, "I have enough."
2 Do not follow your inclination and strength, walking according to the desires of your heart.
3 Do not say, "Who will have power over me?" for the Lord will surely punish you.
4 Do not say, "I sinned, and what happened to me?" for the Lord is slow to anger.
5 Do not be so confident of atonement that you add sin to sin.
6 Do not say, "His mercy is great, he will forgive the multitude of my sins," for both mercy and wrath are with him, and his anger rests on sinners.
7 Do not delay to turn to the Lord, nor postpone it from day to day; for suddenly the wrath of the Lord will go forth, and at the time of punishment you will perish.
8 Do not depend on dishonest wealth, for it will not benefit you in the day of calamity.

CHAPLET OF SAINT ANTHONY
(Tuesday Devotion)

The Chaplet of Saint Anthony consists of thirteen Our Fathers, Hail Marys and Glorys in honor of the thirteen favors mentioned in the “Miraculous Responsory”.

The following invocation may be used before each Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory.

1. Most gracious St. Anthony, keep me from sin and enable me to persevere in good.
(Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.)

2. Great St. Anthony, keep whatever is uncharitable far from me.
(Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.)

3. Dear St. Anthony, make mine a true, lasting and vibrant faith.

4. Good St. Anthony, banish from my heart all that would cloud God’s love.

PRAYER TO SAINT ANTHONY OF PADUA

O Loving St. Anthony, you were a special witness of God’s power and love in your day.
Hear us now as we seek your powerful intercession in our time.
We lift up our prayers for all families.
Help them to grow in their faith; may they persevere in unity, love, and peace.
Bless our children, protect our young people, and be a companion to those in their senior years.
Help them when they are tested by sickness, suffering, loneliness, or whenever they experience loss in their lives. Help all of us in our daily struggles, giving us hope and peace.
Pray for us, St. Anthony, so that we may continue to grow in God’s love.
Intercede for us through Christ our Lord!

Amen.

The Miraculous Responsory or “ Si Quaeris ”

This prayer of praise in honor of St. Anthony was composed by St. Bonaventure.
It is sung frequently in the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua and every Tuesday throughout the world.

If then you ask for miracles,
Death, error, all calamities,
Leprosy and demons fly,
And health succeeds infirmities.

The sea obeys and fetters break,
And lifeless limbs do you restore;
While treasures lost are found again,
When young and old your aid implore.

All dangers vanish at your prayer,
And direst need does quickly flee;
Let those who know your power proclaim,
Let Paduans say: these are of three.

To Father, Son, may glory be
And Holy Spirit, eternally.

Pray for us, blessed Anthony.
Make us worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.

Lord God, may the votive commemoration of blessed Anthony, your Confessor and Doctor, be a source of joy for your people.
May they always be strengthened with his spiritual assistance and deserve eternal rewards.

A BEAUTIFUL ACT OF CONTRITION

Forgive me my sins, O Lord, forgive me my sins; the sins of my youth, the sins of my age, the sins of my soul, the sins of my body; my idle sins, my serious voluntary sins; the sins I know, the sins I do not know; the sins I have concealed for so long, and which are now hidden from my memory.

I am truly sorry for every sin, mortal and venial, for all the sins of my childhood up to the present hour.

I know my sins have wounded Thy Tender Heart, O My Savior, let me be freed from the bonds of evil through the most bitter Passion of My Redeemer.

ACT OF REPARATION TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

Sacred Heart of Jesus, animated with a desire to repair the outrages unceasingly offered to Thee, we prostrate before Thy throne of mercy, and in the name of all mankind, pledge our love and fidelity to Thee!
The more Thy mysteries are blasphemed, the more firmly we shall believe them, O Sacred Heart of Jesus!
The more impiety endeavors to extinguish our hopes of immortality, the more we shall trust in Thy Heart, sole hope of mankind!
The more hearts resist Thy Divine attractions, the more we shall love Thee, O infinitely amiable Heart of Jesus!
The more unbelief attacks Thy Divinity, the more humbly and profoundly we shall adore It, O Divine Heart of Jesus!
The more Thy holy laws are transgressed and ignored, the more we shall delight to observe them, O most holy Heart of Jesus!
The more Thy Sacraments are despised and abandoned, the more frequently we shall receive them with love and reverence, O most liberal Heart of Jesus!
The more the imitation of Thy virtues is neglected and forgotten, the more we shall endeavor to practice them, O Heart of Jesus, model of every virtue!
The more the devil labors to destroy souls, the more we shall be inflamed with desire to save them, O Heart of Jesus, zealous Lover of souls!
The more sin and impurity destroy the image of God in man, the more we shall try by purity of life to be a living temple of the Holy Spirit, O Heart of Jesus!
The more Thy Holy Church is despised, the more we shall endeavor to be her faithful children, O Sweet Heart of Jesus!
The more Thy Vicar on earth is persecuted, the more we will honor him as the infallible head of Thy Holy Church, show our fidelity and pray for him, O kingly Heart of Jesus!
O Sacred Heart, through Thy powerful grace, may we become Thy apostles in the midst of a corrupted world, and be Thy crown in the kingdom of heaven.

PRAYER TO SAINT JOSEPH, TERROR OF DEMONS

Saint Joseph, Terror of Demons, cast thy solemn gaze upon the devil and all his minions, and protect us with thy mighty staff. Thou fled through the night to avoid the devil’s wicked designs; now with the power of God, smite the demons as they flee from thee! Grant special protection, we pray, for children, fathers, mothers, families, and the dying. By God’s grace, no demon dares approach while thou art near, so we beg of thee, Saint Joseph, always be near to us!
