Painful sublingual exostosis is a hypertrophy of bone at the tip of the toe. It happens under the nail hence the term “subungual” it’s a benign tumor from the bone and cartilage. The cause is unknown, possible causation could be trauma, subungual exostosis may occur at any age and woman are more commonly affected. A firm nodule develops under the nail causing severe pain with separation of the nail from the nail bed. (Onycholysis) X -rays confirm the diagnosis.
