Recently, University Hospital in Newark hosted a physician symposium focused on early detection and screening for type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Breakthrough T1D was proud to partner on this important education opportunity, featuring Hope-Elizabeth Clennon, DO, Pediatric Endocrinologist with RWJ Barnabas Health and a member of our NJ Breakthrough T1D Medical Advisory Council. Physicians learned about the benefits of early detection, who should be screened, and how to navigate results and ongoing monitoring.

As a pilot site for the Breakthrough T1D Early Detection and Screening initiative, University Hospital has already screened thousands of community members, advancing early detection efforts across New Jersey. 💙

Dr. Alfonso Waller's appointment as Governor-Elect of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Cardiology is a testament to his clinical expertise, academic leadership, and dedication to advancing cardiovascular care. As a Professor of Medicine and Radiology and Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, his influence continues to elevate care for patients across our community.

Ruth Harrell, UH's Director of Education & Professional Development, receipt of the Organization of Nurse Leaders (ONL) of New Jersey Professional Recognition Award honors her visionary approach to education and professional development. Her transformational leadership has strengthened nursing excellence at University Hospital and empowered the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Lois V. Greene DHA's induction into the Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing recognizes her unwavering commitment to wellness equity, inclusive leadership, and population health. Her work continues to drive meaningful change and advance excellence across University Hospital and beyond.

Mark Jordan P., one of University Hospital’s Assistant Directors of Nursing, has received two awards for his dedication to nursing and exemplary leadership. Mark was recognized by the Philippine Nurses Association of America and the Haitian American Nurses Association for the significant impact he makes on his team and in the community he serves!

Yesterday, University Hospital leadership spent the evening in Newark’s Clinton Hill helping prep and serve a community meal at Our Community Grocery Store 🛒🩵

The night included powerful performances from poet laureate Margie “Mia X” Johnson and several talented youth poets, as well as time spent connecting with neighbors as the holiday season begins.

The power of gathering, listening, and showing up for one another is limitless. At University Hospital, our care extends into every corner of the community, and we’re honored to be there for you.

In recognition of National Clergy & Chaplain Appreciation Month, we were honored to welcome Governor Phil Murphy to University Hospital to celebrate the faith leaders who bring compassion, comfort, and spiritual care to our community.

The event was hosted by Dr. Errol Stoddart, UH Director of Spiritual Care Services, and Reverend Louise Scott-Rountree, Councilwoman-at-Large. We were also privileged to hear from Dr. George Blackwell III, our keynote speaker; Wintley Phipps, guest presenter; and musical guest Dr. Fondrea Lewis.

We are deeply grateful to our chaplains and clergy for their unwavering dedication to those facing health challenges, personal crises, and life transitions.
