Yesterday, we closed out Colon Cancer Awareness Month with a powerful event dedicated to education, prevention, and early detection 💙

Our community showed up in blue in solidarity, and we were honored to be joined by University Hospital President & CEO Carole Johnson, Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, New Jersey Department of Human Services Comissioner Dr. Stephen Cha , Dr. Melissa M. Alvarez-Downing, Dr. Ana Natale Pereira, Newark Councilwoman Amina Bey , and Newark Council President Larry Crump. Special thank you to Lois V Greene for serving as moderator and guiding an impactful discussion.

We are especially grateful to the Newark Municipal Council for presenting University Hospital with a resolution recognizing our commitment to community engagement and advancing equitable access to care.

Together, we honor the legacy of Donald M. Payne Jr. and continue the fight to raise awareness, expand screening, and save lives.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month - a reminder that screening saves lives.

Screening for colorectal cancer is recommended starting at age 45, and earlier if you are at higher risk. Screening is the number one way to prevent colorectal cancer through early detection and removal of precancerous polyps, with several options available to make the process accessible and effective.
