Today starts Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month. If you are not already performing self-skin exams, we strongly recommend you start. It is estimated that every day, 9,500 people in the United States are diagnosed with skin cancer. Skin cancer is preventable and very treatable.
Here are 5 tips to help you reduce your risk of a skin cancer diagnosis.
1. Practice safe sun
2. Reapply sunscreen
3. Avoid indoor tanning
4. Skip the base tan, it cannot prevent a sunburn
5. Use a self-tanner if you like the look of a tan
Lastly, even with self-skin checks, you should schedule an annual full-body skin exam with your board-certified dermatologist. No one knows your skin better. Don't forget we are in four locations to serve all of Delaware better. Call 302-633-7550 or visit our website www.premierdermde.com to schedule your visit. Immediate appointments available.
