Newark-Arcadia Emergency Medical Services Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance, Inc. is an EMS agency, committed to the community. NWCH embraced the idea and joined forces to offer their support.

NAVA began as a community based volunteer agency on July 1, 1977 through the efforts of three nurses from the Newark Wayne Community Hospital (NWCH) who felt that the community needed access to pre-hospital emergency care. In 1979, NAVA began providing Basic Life Saving care which it continues to this day and is also paired with Wayne County ALS to provide Advanced Life Saving care to the town of Newark and is neighboring towns. EMS has evolved in recent years from a largely volunteer based system to paid career staff. The call volume has increased from approximately 800 in 1977 to 2900 in 2021. In 2011, NAVA reorganized to better serve the community by forming the LLC, Newark Arcadia EMS to accommodate 24/7 paid staff who work hand in hand with volunteers. Paramedic Todd Blanchard was hired as Chief of Operations and coordinates the operational aspects of NAVA under the general direction of the NAVA Board of Directors.

We have had a few inquiries after this article was posted and published. We would like to make it clear that our agency is very much still providing primary 911 EMS response to the Town of Arcadia and Village of Newark, and will continue to provide our community with high quality medical care. There are still a number of high quality community based organizations providing care to their communities in Wayne County every day.

Our sincere condolences to Kevin’s family and co-workers.

We are devastated to share that Flight Paramedic Kevin Robert passed away last night, August 27th, following a sudden medical emergency. Kevin, alongside a flight nurse and pilot, were caring for a patient aboard LifeNet 7-13, based out of Ticonderoga, NY.

Our crew quickly landed at a nearby hospital while our communications center coordinated emergency resources for Kevin and our patient. Despite the extraordinary efforts of our crew, communications teams, first responders, and the hospital staff, Kevin could not be revived.

Our priority now is the well-being of our teammates and the continued support of Kevin’s family. The Ticonderoga base remains on safety stand-down as we allow our team the time and space they need to grieve.

We ask that you keep Kevin’s family, friends, and teammates in your thoughts, and join us in respecting their privacy as we all navigate this heartbreaking loss. We will forever cherish the memories Kevin leaves with us, and we will carry his memory and legacy with us on every mission.
