We’re proud to kick off this year’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training at the Ramser 4-H Activity Center, bringing together a strong group of partners from across Knox County.
Over the next five Wednesdays, officers from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Fredericktown Police Department, Mount Vernon Police Department, Knox Community Hospital Security, and Kenyon Campus Security will be investing their time to strengthen how our community responds to mental health and substance use crises.
We are especially grateful for the leadership of our Clinical Director, Daniel Cuciak, who is guiding this training and helping translate clinical expertise into practical tools for the field.
CIT matters because it changes outcomes. It equips first responders with the skills to recognize behavioral health needs, de-escalate high-stress situations, reduce the risk of harm, and connect individuals to appropriate care instead of defaulting to arrest or emergency departments. That benefits not only the person in crisis, but also families, law enforcement, and the broader community.
The level of participation we’re seeing is encouraging and reflects a shared commitment across agencies to do this work well. We’re looking forward to the weeks ahead and the continued collaboration that makes Knox County stronger, safer, and more responsive.
More to come as the training continues.
