We THRILLED to add Gros Bleu to our line-up of cultivars💜 We are starting to see roots and will have limited quanties available. Comment "Bleu" and we'll be sure to tag you when we finalize rooting and offer them on our website.

Lavandula × intermedia ‘Gros Bleu’ is a highly regarded lavandin cultivar (a hybrid of English lavender and spike lavender) grown for its exceptionally dark violet-blue flower spikes, strong fragrance, and ornamental value.

A strikingl hybrid intermedia lavender with a high production of essential oil which is described as rich, floral, complex and sweet with a fresh finish. Less camphorous than other hybrids making it a desirable choice for many growers.

Once mature, Gros Blue can grow up to 30–40 inches (75–100 cm) tall and wide

Foliage: Narrow, aromatic silver-gray to gray-green leaves

Flowers: Long, tapered spikes with deep violet to indigo-blue blooms; among the darkest-colored lavandins

Fragrance: Sweet, clean lavender scent with less camphor than cultivars like ‘Grosso’

Pruning is an important part of keeping lavender healthy and productive.

Lavender is actually a woody shrub and without proper pruning it will become woody, leggy, and lose it's shape. There are 2 optimal times to prune.

1. In late summer or fall 6 weeks before the first frost. Most farms prune then shaping their lavender into compact mounds. This helps to make the structure of the lavender sturdier for ice and snow events that occur over the winter.

2. Spring once plants start to come out of dormancy but not too late either. Pruning too late on hybrid/intermedia lavenders and you can actually be cutting off this years blooms. So May is typically a great time to prune. Its also been unreasonably cold this year and plants are still coming out of dormancy.

Here is a great diagram of how to prune from our friends at Seafoam Lavender 💜

IT'S TIME!!!! Time to prune your lavender shrubs. In the Maritimes and other cold climates, the month of May is the perfect time to shape your lavender plants into perfect globes. Not sure if a branch is dead? Give it the "snap test." Start at the end of the branch and bend it backwards. If it breaks, that portion is dead. Keep working your way down the branch until it seems pliable (bendable). This part of the branch is still alive. Cut away all dead growth. Don't worry if your plant looks scraggly -- trust us, it'll be fine. The plant will naturally "fill in" blank spaces over the next few months, as the plant comes out of winter dormancy. As for the live branches (even if they don't yet have any green growth), trim those back about 1/3 of the existing length. In cold climates, we recommend NOT cutting back any more than 1/3 of the plant (unless the branch is clearly dead, then go ahead and do a more significant pruning). Happy Lavender Gardening! :)

***GREENHOUSE UPDATES - MAY 10TH***
Raise your hand if you're ready for slightly warmer weather and sunshine🙋‍♀️

The greenhouse is looking great with many varieties running "on time" with our Memorial Day projections, and some running a bit behind.

Munstead = On time
Big Time Blue = On time
Big Time White = On time
Grosso = On time
Exceptional = On time
Phenomenal = Slightly delayed
Melissa = Slightly delayed
Melissa Lilac = Slightly delayed
Folgate (rooting) = Delayed
Royal Velvet (rooting) = Delayed
Miss Katherine (rooting)
Riverina Thomas (mostly rooted)
Gros Bleu = (starting to root)
4" Pots = Projected early June

Michigan has been chilly this spring with overcast days, temps running 10° colder than average and super frosty nights🥶 Plants need warmth + sunlight = grow🌱 We even brought in a 1,000 gallon propane tank to run the greenhouse warmer at night which seems to be helping🙏 We are all ready developing processes for next year to get a jumpstart on an earlier season.....just in case Mother Nature wants to be Cold As Ice.....cue Foreigner 🎶
Ya know what they say though.....the year ya do that it will be 70° in February 😆 We'll do it anyway👌

👉 Tray Availability
We will be releasing some of the inventory we held back as a buffer. We'll post when we do :)

Thanks for the support✌️
