One of my favorite things to eat for breakfast: oatmeal with walnuts, chia seeds, blueberries, olive oil, oat milk, a splash of maple syrup, and cinnamon. 🥣 Oatmeal - rich in soluble fiber - decreases LDL (“bad cholesterol”), decreases risk of colon cancer

🫒 Olive oil - loaded with at least 30 phenolic compounds known for their amazing antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties (I.e. oleuropein protects LDL particles from oxidation) — Note: oxidation of LDL particles is involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis; rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats (75% of its fat is in the form of oleic acid, an omega-9 fatty acid), also thought to improve blood pressure

🫐 Blueberries - great source of antioxidants, primarily anthocyanins, which help protect cells from damage caused by oxidative stress, good source of other antioxidants - vitamins C and K, also soluble fiber

❤️ Walnuts - good source of omega-3s which are antiinflammatory, protective against cardiovascular disease (CVD), lowers LDL, triglycerides, and apoprotein B (protein linked with CVD)

🫶•Chia seeds - omega-3 fatty acids —> antiinflammatory, protective against cardiovascular disease, good source of fiber

Special mention:
•Cinnamon - blood-sugar reducing effect, may decrease LDL, antioxidant effect from cinnamaldehyde
