COVID - 19 Policy

The Coronavirus is challenging us all, stirring anxiety and disrupting our daily patterns. I want to do all I can to ensure your safety by maintaining the continuity of your therapy by making available a Teletherapy option. If you haven't seen me in awhile, would like to begin therapy again or explore other issues, I do still have times available if you would like to meet by video conferencing or phone until it is safe to meet again in person.

I will make every effort to become available for in-person appointments once it is safe again to do so, where I believe the quality of presence between us can be experienced most palpably and helpfully for our “work” together. If you have concerns about your health, please email me, call me or text me at 978-270-0394 so we can talk and make a decision together about meeting via teletherapy.

It is important that we protect each other and not risk one another’s health. I am committed to protecting you.

In the event of flu symptoms, quarantine recommendations, or exposure to a person suspected of being infected with Covid-19, my 48 hour cancellation policy will be waived. With regards to in-person appointments, please call as early as possible, at which time we can consider the Teletherapy option.

If you have Blue Cross Blue Shield, their plans cover Teletherapy in the same way as in-person appointments. I am currently using a Teletherapy platform called Doxy.me. It is easy to use, and the platform is HIPPA compliant. It does require Internet access, but you can use your smart phone, also.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Wishing the best of health for you and your loved ones!

Best Regards,

Darwin Gillett, MSW, LICSW

Great metaphor for stress and the power of your negative thoughts

Great metaphor for stress and the power of your negative thoughts

A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they'd be asked the "half empty or half full" question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: "How heavy is this glass of water?"

Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn't change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."

She continued, "The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything."

Remember to put the glass down.

Great way to look at transition

Great way to look at transition

"At any time you can ask yourself: At which threshold am I now standing? At this time in my life, what am I leaving? Where am I about to enter? What is preventing me from crossing my next threshold? What gift would enable me to do it? A threshold is not a simple boundary; it is a frontier that divides two different territories, rhythms, and atmospheres. Indeed, it is a lovely testimony to the fullness and integrity of an experience or stage of life that it intensifies toward the end into a real frontier that cannot be crossed without the heart being passionately engaged and woken up. At this threshold a great complexity of emotion comes alive: confusion, fear, excitement, sadness, hope.
This is one of the reasons such vital crossings were always clothed in ritual. It is wise in your own life to be able to recognize and acknowledge the key thresholds: to take your time; to feel all the varieties of presence that accrue there; to listen inward with complete attention until you hear the inner voice calling you forward. The time has come to cross."
