Most conventional clothing is made from synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, and spandex. and while they’re cheap and stretchy, they come with a few things worth knowing:
🧴 synthetics are plastic. they’re derived from petroleum and aren’t breathable (meaning they trap heat, sweat, and bacteria against your skin all day long)
🌊 they shed microplastics every time you wash and wear them
☠️ they’re often treated with chemicals like PFAS, formaldehyde, and flame retardants to achieve that soft, wrinkle-free, moisture-wicking finish
🌱 natural fibers (cotton, linen, wool, silk, h**p, bamboo) breathe with your body, biodegrade, and don’t leach plastic into the environment
The goal isn’t perfection, it’s knowing what you’re putting on your body every day and making swaps where it makes sense for you!
Which natural fiber swaps have you made? Did you like them? Let me know in the comments! ⬇️
