As Elevate approaches its 2nd birthday (whew 2 years goes fast!) I’ve been taking some time to reflect on what’s working and what could use a little improvement…⁣

I’m making some small changes behind the scenes, but one of the bigger shifts is looking at my relationship with time 😬⁣

So, this spring, I’m dropping a new schedule!⁣

I’ll be focusing on pelvic floor evaluations and treatments on Tues & Thurs and keeping Wednesdays for energy healing. Monday evenings will remain open for any client who can’t make a daytime appointment, and Fridays for the admin side of the biz. ⁣

This may or may not work! But giving it a go and appreciate your support as I do.⁣

As always, I am happy to consider alternatives under special circumstances. (I’m looking at you Friday reiki folks!)⁣

But for now working on holding some better boundaries for myself (which will only ultimately help to serve YOU 🙌🏻)⁣

Thanks for your flexibility!⁣

How are you setting some boundaries for yourself and your time? ⬇️ a comment below on what’s working (or not working!) for you!⁣

Some new faces around here so I’m re-introducing myself!⁣

If you’re new to this page, welcome. If you haven’t had a chance to read a bit about me, I’d be honored to have a moment of your time.⁣

I graduated from Ithaca College in 2005 with my Masters in PT and went on to complete my doctorate the following year. ⁣

Since that time I have worked in nearly every clinical setting…Mass General, Brigham & Women’s, outpatient therapy, inpatient rehab, home care, long term care…even some TA’ing with local graduate programs.⁣

In nearly every setting, there seemed to be an element of care missing. A human element that allowed for time, listening, compassion and the ability to treat the person as a whole.

Don’t get me wrong, these institutions provide incredible care for individuals, some of the best treatments in the world. But our current health care system simply doesn’t allow practitioners the time needed to provide the kind of comprehensive care that many of us believed in when we began our journeys in medicine.⁣

After having my own babies (now 9 & 5), I was literally shocked that women simply weren’t being cared for both prenatally and postpartum. Basic information about pregnancy, birth and postpartum care was difficult to access, despite the research supporting pelvic floor therapy and birth education. And the incredible transition into motherhood, both physically & energetically wasn’t being honored or truly acknowledged in any meaningful way (in my experience).⁣

So, I opened Elevate. A space for healing that is unlike any other. A blend of traditional evidence-based physical therapy, reiki, and craniosacral therapy to help the body heal, connect and integrate. ⁣

The Elevate experience is unlike any other. It truly is my honor to serve each person that walks through my door. ⁣

Thanks for being here! If you are local to the north shore of MA and looking to work together, send me a DM. I’d love to help. ⁣

The secret is out…⁣

Pelvic health therapists play a pretty amazing role in health care. The care we provide can have a huge impact on your 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦.⁣

We help people dealing with some of the 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘷𝘶𝘭𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦𝘴 we face as human beings. Leaking urine or stool, painful s*x, pre and postnatal care, pelvic pain conditions, prolapse, infertility and more. And our work is not limited to female anatomy (more to come).⁣

Through our training as Pelvic PT’s or OT’s, we have 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘴 from that of your P*P, OBGYN, Ortho PT, Yoga or Pilates Instructor, or Personal Trainer. 𝗪𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝘇𝘇𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁. We can work with your team to collaborate on your care.⁣

And because we are rehab specialists first, we understand 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 the rest of the body. 👈🏻 this right here is the special sauce. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗸𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘀. ⁣

And that last slide…⁣

More and more of us are seeking out information about our bodies 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘴𝘺𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘴. I’d argue everyone can benefit from a pelvic health screening to gain insight into their own body. And given that 𝟭 𝗶𝗻 𝟯 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝘆𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, there’s work to be done.⁣

If you are dealing with any of these conditions or simply want some information about your body, find a specialist near you. 𝘐𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦.⁣

✨ Curious about Reiki?⁣

✨ Wondering why I am using this in my pelvic floor practice?⁣

✨ I believe Reiki can have a significant impact on our nervous system. Helping us feel more calm, safe and regulated. ⁣

✨ Pelvic floor therapy can be incredibly vulnerable, especially when we are dealing with chronic pain, shame, and trauma.⁣

✨ Reiki serves as a gentle healing tool to help balance the energy in your system, to release what is not serving you, and create an environment where your system feels safe. ⁣

✨ Have you experienced Reiki? If you have any insight to share or personal experience drop a comment below! 👇🏻⁣

"New Year, New You"

If I'm being honest, I really despise this messaging.

The truth is, we are always evolving, learning and growing. No special countdown or New Year's resolution necessary.

However, I do know the holidays are a busy, busy time. Finally making that pelvic floor appointment may be very low on the list of priorities. Especially if you have been "living with it for this long".

That's why I'm offering an incentive to get YOU back on the books. Back on the list of priorities. Back in your own body, healing, strengthening and functioning.

Get on my schedule by the end of January and I'll throw in a FREE 30 minute Reiki session (a $40 value!). If you have received Reiki before, you know how calming, grounding and healing it can be. If you haven't, this is the perfect time to start working together! Not only are you going to gain insight about your own body, improve your pelvic floor function and strength, but also receive some energy healing and experience the magic of Reiki.

Throw in some love for you this holiday season.

And while you're at it, you'll be supporting me! A woman-owned small business devoted to empowering individuals dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction.

Sale runs Nov 26 through December 12th.

If you've been considering working with me, I hope you take the leap.

Investing in you is always the best investment. Link in bio. pelvicfloortherapy

⚡️FLASH BIRTHDAY SALE!

28% off all Pelvic Floor services, link in bio.

*trigger warning, birth story*

8 years ago I was nearly 42 weeks pregnant, anxiously awaiting the birth of our baby girl.

When I found out we were pregnant, I became committed to learning everything I could about pregnancy, birth and beyond. I was so fortunate to have a tribe of women in my life who helped me find the answers I was looking for. My dearest friend taught me about the pelvic floor and how to prepare my body for birth. Lorenza Holt of BACE inspired me to find my voice and empowered me with the knowledge I needed to have the birth experience I believed possible. My partner Aquil stood by side, attended weekly birth classes (with his notebook!), supported me and trusted that I knew my own body and what I was capable of.

When contractions began around 6 pm and rapidly progressed, we were nervous but ready. Aquil swayed with me, squeezed my hips and made the calls. He ushered me into the car and headed towards the North Shore Birth Center around 8:30 pm. Little did we know I would have a VERY quick delivery, and she would begin making her way into the world before even parking the damn car. (Grateful for oversized sweatpants!)

Zoe Elizabeth Abdullah was born, in the back seat of a Honda Civic, at 9:02 pm on 10/28/14.

Since then, the tribe has only grown. Family, friends, therapists, lactation consultants, teachers, caregivers, and neighbors have come into our lives and helped us along the way.

It has truly taken a village.

As a PT I'm privileged to have an understanding of the body, and friends that helped me recover when it was broken, tired and in pain postpartum. I found MUTU, pelvic floor therapy, diaphragmatic breathing, the squatty potty and the power of rest. My journey to understanding the pelvic floor began during pregnancy and has only continued to grow since then.

So, in honor my daughter Zoe and her incredible birth that has forever changed me and my path in life, I am offering 28% off all pelvic floor services this week!

It has taken a village for me, and I hope to be a part of that village for you.

B M S S
We are going to be doing a deeper dive into each of these components. Here are some initial thoughts...

BREATH
Do you know what diaphragmatic breathing is? Do you know what the pelvic floor is supposed to do when we breathe? Are you breathing at the right time during your exercises? Are you working on lung capacity, rib cage mobility, thoracic spine mobility? Do you know how to manage pressure in your trunk (thorax and abdomen)?

MOBILITY
I'm not just talking pelvic floor mobility, as in, can it move through it's full range of motion. I'm talking foot and ankle mobility, hip and knee, ribcage and spine...remember it's all connected! How are you incorporating mobility into your exercise program or everyday movements?

STRENGTH
What muscle groups are you focusing on during strength training? What's going on back there, meaning, your posterior chain (back of your body). Are you building strength to help support your pelvic floor and distribute force/pressure? How about that core?Doing anything with rotation?

STABILITY
The body loves stability. The pelvic floor runs front to back and side to side deep within our pelvis. Imagine your pelvic floor is like a trampoline. What would happen if one side was up a bit? Or rotated? Or maybe held in a shortened position? What's going on AROUND the pelvic floor and are you bringing some stability exercises into your program?

These are just some of the thoughts I've been having this week while pondering how to answer "when should I start exercising my pelvic floor?"

Stay tuned as we look more in depth at each component!
