Hard-working lesson ponies deserve some me-time🧘‍♀️ and pain control without medications 😌☯️

Loving my new electroacupuncture unit! It works by sending a gentle pulse through connected needles, creating controlled nerve stimulation. This activates the body’s natural pain-control pathways in the brain and spinal cord, increasing release of endogenous opioids (endorphins, enkephalins) as well as serotonin and norepinephrine. These are the same systems many pain medications target, but using the body’s own chemistry. This is the stuff that drew me to getting acupuncture certified in the first place! Pretty cool right?

ECVA Case Feature: Coco 🤍 17-year-old Shih-Tzu

Coco came for integrative supportive care alongside her medical treatment for heart disease, kidney disease, and newly-onset seizures. Coco's parents reached out to help control Coco's seizures, which had started 2-3x weekly since November.

We began acupuncture in early January using a gentle and low-stress approach. Over the next 8 weeks and 3 acupuncture treatments, her seizure frequency dropped to just 2 episodes in total.

Acupuncture works in cases like Coco's by stimulating peripheral nerves to send inhibitory and calming signals to the brain. This stabilizes neurons and reduces the hyper-excitable state that causes seizures.

Since starting care, Coco's tongue color has normalized from purple to pink, her energy has improved, and her family reports she’s enjoying walks and eating great!

My goal with these treatments isn’t to replace conventional medicine, but to support comfort and quality of life, especially for senior patients like Coco. 🐶

Me and my friend Rigatoni (the biscuit chef) during his first acupuncture session ☯️

This guy is wide awake and totally unbothered, which surprises a lot of people. Acupuncture needles are hair-thin and designed to gently stimulate the nervous system, not cause pain. Most cats tolerate (and even relax into) treatments once they realize nothing scary is happening like a normal vet visit.

In cats, acupuncture can help with conditions like asthma, arthritis, GI disease, kidney disease, and chronic pain by improving circulation, reducing inflammation, and supporting the body’s own regulatory systems.

No sedation. No restraint. Just calm handling, careful point selection, and letting the patient tell me how much is enough. 💛

Happy to answer questions about how acupuncture can support your cat. Dm me!

Cutie patootie patient of the day: Carrot! 🥕

Carrot was so relaxed and receptive for her first acupuncture treatment. She loved all the attention and rubbies as I placed the needles. Looking forward to seeing her response at our follow-up next week!

Vitamin B12 aquapuncture: making acupuncture more effective while providing a host of health benefits! 💦 🐴 🐶

Aquapuncture is the practice of injecting a small amount of a liquid into an acupoint. This method stimulates the acupoint long after the needle is removed, making the treatment stronger, more effective, and longer lasting. It's also helpful for animals who won't tolerate sitting with needles in for a full 20-30 minute session. Or horses who are cold and need their blankets put right back on! 🥶

Cobalamin or Vitamin B12 is the aqua of choice because of its safety and host of health benefits. This red-colored liquid boosts energy, stamina, and red blood cell production, aiding athletic performance, recovery, and appetite. It helps support the GI tract and microbiome. B12 is essential for its own natural absorption through the GI tract, so supplementing it can increase blood levels of naturally absorbed B12. Be warned - your pet may have red tinged urine after a B12 treatment - this is normal!

Aquapuncture is one of the many ways I can supplement traditional acupuncture to make a treatment as effective as possible for your animal. DM me to schedule your first visit today! ✌🏼💛

Treatment for your pets in the comfort of your own home 🥰

Bohdi is a 9 year old mixed breed dog with a history of hip dysplasia and hind end weakness. In her old age, arthritis is making her mobility even worse.

It might surprise you, but in Chinese medicine, the Kidney is connected to more than just the urinary system. It governs the bones, fetal and childhood development, and many more aspects of the body.

Based on Bohdi's history and exam, I diagnosed her with a Kidney Yang Deficiency. Her first treatment focused on strengthening her Kidney Qi and Yang, as well as local points for her hip and elbow pain. I used Moxa, a warming herb, on her lower back and hips as well, to intensify the treatment and warm her from the inside out 😌

When horses lick or chew, it means theyre releasing tension and shifting from a "fight or flight" to a relaxed nervous system. It's an objective response that tells me their body is responding to treatment! You can't tell but this guy was 5 minutes into cooking with 16 needles.
