The sunny, warm weather this past weekend was a great opportunity for a little refresh of the iconic Dutch door between our kitchen and dining room! A little sanding, a fresh coat of paint, and she's ready for a busy season ✨ We also cleaned up the beautiful keyhole hardware - can you believe these gorgeous Bakelite doorknobs?? 😍 The Butler was built in 1846 and we love the way her history shines through.

We love our ladies!! This beautiful flock of backyard chickens provide fresh eggs for our housemade breakfast, eat up all our fruit and veggie scraps, and patrol the property for ticks. Plus, they sure make life a lot more interesting... And now that Maine spring is coming on, they're laying a lot more eggs ☀️ 🍳 🐓

So exciting to gather with the other Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce board members and celebrate the opening of Smashed Burgers & Brews!! Congratulations Gary and Jane! We stopped in for a delicious lunch last weekend and the place was jamming. (Plus they're open on Mondays... hard to overemphasize how exciting THAT is in this part of the world 😍 😍)

Our favorite perk of being innkeepers so far?? Lighting the woodstove in the sauna at the end of a long day! We first discovered Nordic circuits on a trip to Canada several years ago and since then we've become total believers in the power of heat, cold and rest for physical and mental wellness. Sure feels like a full-circle moment to have our own sauna - and to be able to share it with all of you!

It's hard to believe we moved in less than three weeks ago. Thanks to everyone who's schlepped couches, painted trim, unpacked boxes, or just reached out to check in. Thank you for helping us get the word out! We're also so grateful to previous owners/new friends for life Stephanie and Jesse Cheney, who are endlessly patient with our random questions at all hours... like how we can convince the chickens to go back in the coop at night?? 🐓

Anyway, THANK YOU ALL for your kind messages and enthusiasm... we're totally blown away by the response and we so appreciate you spreading the word about the Tipsy Butler. We want everyone to feel welcome here - because you're a part of what we're building, too 💕

👋 Hi! We're Alicia Witham and Annie Fagan, the new owners of The Tipsy Butler B&B in Newcastle, Maine. We're lifelong Mainers and we rearranged our lives to make this dream come true. We can't wait to host your next visit to the midcoast.

In our lives we've taken on challenges that most people might think twice about (sailing across the Atlantic ocean, working at an oyster hatchery, owning a restaurant, living on an island... you get the idea). But move-in day was one for the books. In true B&B fashion, we met our guests on Friday morning, closed at noon, and made a two-course breakfast the next day for a full house 😅

Our friends and family showed up in full force to help unload the U-Haul. And OF COURSE we took the wood-fired cedar sauna for a test drive with our family, who snapped this gorgeous photo of the Butler aglow after they walked back from dinner in town 😍

So yes, we already love living here. Annie's thrilled about the solar-powered EV charger. Chef Leish has empty plates coming back to the kitchen at the end of breakfast service. And Hobie (our 11-year old whippet/terrier mix) is taking his role as newly minted Inn Dog very seriously.

To the guests who'll be returning to the Tipsy Butler this year - we can't wait to meet you and find out what keeps you coming back. And to those of you coming to stay with us for the first time - thank you so much! We think you'll love it here. And we promise to send you off the beaten path, so you can see what midcoast Maine is really all about 🌊 🦪 🌲

It is going to be a white Christmas in the midcoast! We woke up to almost a foot of heavy snow this morning.

Cooking breakfast and shoveling the walk can peacefully coexist. As evidenced by asparagus tart with prosciutto and Camembert and a fried egg from the girls out back. ❤️❄️
