Our AAET Board of Directors and committee members would like to wish you and your family a very happy and safe Thanksgiving. Take a look at some of the reasons our President, Mary Miller, is thankful today for her career in neurodiagnostics!
"Choosing to become a neurodiagnostic technologist has been one of the most fulfilling decisions of my life. The journey of working in this field offers me a unique blend of personal and professional satisfaction, driven by several deeply meaningful reasons for which I am incredibly thankful.
Firstly, the opportunity to help others is rewarding. As a neurodiagnostic technologist, I have played a critical role in diagnosing and treating neurological conditions. I have gotten to contribute to improving patients' lives by providing accurate and essential data that helps physicians make informed decisions. Knowing that my work has directly impacts someone’s health and well-being gives me a profound sense of purpose and gratitude.
In addition to helping others, I am thankful for the chance to have comforted patients during stressful moments. Many of the individuals I have encountered were experiencing anxiety or discomfort due to their health concerns. Being able to offer reassurance, empathy, and a calm presence during their diagnostic procedures was incredibly gratifying. It has been a privilege to be a source of comfort and support when they have needed it the most, and this aspect of the job continually reminded me of the importance of compassion in healthcare.
Furthermore, one of the aspects that makes my soul truly happy and for which I am profoundly grateful is the chance to educate and mentor new technologists. Sharing my knowledge and experience with those entering the field is both a joy and a responsibility I take to heart. Watching new technologists grow, develop their skills, and find their own passion for neurodiagnostics is inspiring. It’s a continuous cycle of learning and teaching that keeps the profession dynamic and evolving.
Overall, I am deeply thankful for the career I have chosen. Becoming a neurodiagnostic technologist has allowed me to align my professional path with my personal values and passions. The fulfillment I derive from helping others, comforting patients, and educating new technologists makes this career not just a job, but a calling. It’s a role that enriches my life while allowing me to make a tangible difference in the lives of others, and for that, I am endlessly grateful." -Mary Miller, R.NCS.T.
