Narcissism is not as black-and-white as social media often makes it seem.
Yes, narcissistic behavior can be harmful. Yes, it can be confusing, invalidating, and traumatizing to be in relationship with someone who struggles with these traits. But there is also a psychological foundation that’s important to understand — especially if you’re in the process of healing, detaching, or reclaiming your sense of self.
🔹 FACT: Some narcissistic traits develop as a coping mechanism for insecurity or deep emotional wounds.
🔹 MYTH: Narcissists are always malicious or intentionally harmful.
Often, what you’re seeing is a defense system, not confidence. A fragile ego wrapped in armor. A person who learned to survive by inflating themselves because shrinking felt too unsafe.
Again — this does not excuse abusive behavior.
But understanding the “why” helps you stop blaming yourself for their actions, reactions, or lack of emotional capacity.
Healing from narcissistic relationships begins with truth, clarity, and emotional education.
You’re allowed to prioritize your peace.
You’re allowed to unlearn the patterns.
You’re allowed to choose yourself. 🌱
