Our last session of the day happens at 3 pm – ‘Accessible Recreation in Action: Parks, Museums, and State Initiatives.’ Join us to explore how accessibility is being integrated into recreational spaces across Connecticut, with a focus on municipal parks and recreation departments, museums, and state-led initiatives.

Registration now for the second day of virtual sessions of our 2025 State Conference – Wednesday, December 10!

Our second session of the day is ‘Coexisting Assistive Listening Systems: Current and New Technologies,’ at 12:30 pm. Wynne Whyman of the Center for Hearing Access will cover the six different assistive listening technologies that are currently used, which systems fall under the ADA, the ADA standards, and the challenges that users commonly experience when visiting public and private entities.

The second day of our 2025 State Conference is coming up on December 10 – don’t forget to register for sessions!

We’re starting the day at 9:30 am with ‘The Phenomenon of the Older Worker: Accommodations and Inclusive (Universal) Design in the Workplace.’ In this session, Morgayne Mulkern and Taciana Ribeiro Saab of the New England ADA Center will share practical strategies to implement universal design. Then, we’ll discuss how to apply universal design to support older workers with disabilities, contributing to a more inclusive workplace culture. Yesterday, we posted session topics for the first day of our 2025 State Conference. And now, here are the topics for day two – Wednesday, December 10!

At 9:30 am, we’ll start the day with ‘The Phenomenon of the Older Worker,’ which looks at conditions that may affect older workers and how we can use universal design principles to create accessible, equitable work environments. Come back at 12:30 for ‘Coexisting Assistive Listening Systems,’ an overview of all six assistive listening technologies that are currently available, and what challenges users commonly face. We’ll close the day with ‘Accessible Recreation in Action’ at 3 pm, looking at how accessibility is being integrated into recreational spaces across Connecticut.

Registration for our 2025 State Conference is now open – read on to learn about topics for our first day of virtual sessions on Wednesday, November 19!

The day starts off with ‘Know Your ADA Resource Network’ at 9:30 am, providing participants with a clear roadmap for accessing support and guidance related to the ADA. At 12:30 pm, we’ll continue with ‘Bridging History and Accessibility,’ which digs into actionable strategies to make historic facilities accessible to all. The day wraps up with ‘Designing for Access’ at 3 pm – an in-depth exploration into creating accessible documents, using common tools like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and PDF editors.

is November 4 – and many people who need assistance voting are not aware that accessibility accommodations are available. For example, did you know that voters can request an accessible voting machine, bring someone along to assist, or even request curbside voting?

The New York Times recently reported on the experiences of disabled riders on Amtrak – which aims to be fully ADA-compliant by 2029. The verdict? Riding Amtrak is much better than flying, but passengers with disabilities still sometimes ‘feel like freight.’
