I’m doing a double-cleanse with a cleansing balm 1st, then following with a foaming cleanser to remove professional makeup.
Common Mistakes
1. Not cleansing the skin before bed. You’ve touched God knows what & have been exposed to many environmental factors that are aging your skin.
2. Using bar soap on the face (I don’t mean a syndet or bar cleanser). These are likely stripping your skin barrier.
3. Not cleansing because you don’t know what to use. A good start is a foaming hydrating cleanser which works well for most skin types.
4. Using several cleansers with the same ingredients. READ THE LABEL because you might be buying face wash that all have salicylic acid in it. Know the active ingredient.
5. Expensive is best. NOT! For my acne, sensitive skin and perimenopausal patients I’m most often going to suggest a cleanser that you can find at the drugstore or big box store. And I’ll probably have coupons for you.
6. Not appropriately double-cleansing. Use the oily cleanser first on dry skin (makeup removing balm, oil cleanser, micellar water, makeup wipes) & add water once you’ve emulsified it THEN follow-up with a water-based, cleanser to remove any remnants.
