Our Social Service Assistant, Jessica, and our Life Enrichment Director, Debbie, attended a gorgeous gala at the Georgia Aquarium in support of ovarian cancer awareness this past Saturday. It was a beautiful event honoring survivors, those whom have passed, and their caregivers.
Jessica is a 13 year survivor, and she stated that she hopes sharing this information will help other women and girls.
Ovarian cancer is one of the most fatal female cancers. Early symptoms may be mistaken for other illnesses or issues. Unfortunately, this results in many people not receiving a diagnosis until the late stages of the disease.
The following are early signs of ovarian cancer:
1) Loss of appetite or change in appetite such as feeling full quickly
2) Bloating
3) Abdominal pain or discomfort
4) Frequent urination or changes in bowel movements
5) Fatigue
When it is caught early, chances of survival are over 90%! Please consult your doctor if you are experiencing any of the early signs of ovarian cancer.
