A lot of people assume fullness under the chin is just extra fat… but that’s actually not the case for many patients. 🧠

This patient was already thin, but still lacked jawline definition because the issue was happening deeper underneath the surface.

When I evaluate a neck, I’m looking at structures like:
▫️The digastric muscle
▫️The submandibular glands
▫️The position of the chin

If those deeper structures aren’t addressed in the right patient, you can tighten the skin beautifully and still not achieve that sharp, defined neckline people are hoping for.

That’s why procedures like this are so much more than just “skin tightening.” The details underneath the skin are what often make the biggest difference.

And what’s amazing is seeing how much definition can already be visible just 24 hours after surgery — even with swelling still present.

One thing I always tell patients is that the emotions before surgery are completely normal. 🤍

At the consultation, most people feel excited, motivated, and ready. But as surgery gets closer, that excitement often shifts into nervousness, anxiety, and second-guessing.

I’ve had so many patients say things like:
“Am I really doing this?”
“Is this selfish?”
“What if I made the wrong decision?”

And honestly, those feelings are incredibly common.

Doing something for yourself can feel emotionally heavy sometimes, especially when it’s a decision you’ve thought about for years. But part of our job as a surgical team is helping patients feel supported, prepared, and cared for throughout that entire process — not just during surgery itself.

And what’s interesting is that once patients get through surgery and begin healing, that excitement usually comes right back again.

One of the most common questions after surgery is: “Will I actually look presentable in 3 weeks?” ⏳

And honestly… that’s a very fair question.

By the 3-week mark, most patients are looking significantly better and starting to feel more comfortable socially. But healing is never perfectly linear. Some people still have swelling, tightness, or little things they fixate on that nobody else would ever notice.

What’s important is understanding that recovery is a process — not an overnight transformation. The goal at 3 weeks isn’t perfection. It’s progress.

And for most patients, that’s usually the point where they finally start feeling more like themselves again.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see with upper eyelids? People pulling on their eyelid skin in the mirror, thinking, “See… this is all extra skin.” 👁️

But honestly, most of the time you’re actually pulling on your brow skin — not true eyelid skin.

And when patients manually pull that area tight, they’re often showing themselves an overdone result where the eyes can barely even close properly. That’s not the goal.

What’s important to understand is that aging around the eyes is usually much more complex than just “extra skin.” Sometimes it’s:
▫️Brow position
▫️Volume loss
▫️Fullness in certain areas
▫️Changes in contour

That’s why not everyone who thinks they need an upper blepharoplasty is actually the right candidate for one.

The goal should never be to hollow out or overly tighten the eyes. The best eyelid results look natural, balanced, refreshed — and still look like you.

Revision facelifts are a completely different conversation than a first-time facelift.

I know what a lot of people think… “I already had one facelift, so the second should be easier.” But in reality, revision surgery is often much more complex.

Sometimes it’s because a patient had a previous result they weren’t happy with. Other times it’s simply because 10–20 years have passed and the face has continued to age naturally over time.

The challenge is that every surgery creates scar tissue and changes the anatomy underneath the skin. That means revision procedures can carry higher risks when it comes to things like:
⚠️Nerves
⚠️Muscles
⚠️Skin healing

That’s why planning, technique, and experience matter so much in secondary surgery. The goal is always to improve things naturally while respecting the tissue that’s already been operated on.

And honestly, this is why it’s so important to think long term when considering facial rejuvenation procedures in the first place.

A lot of people think fullness under the chin is always just fat… but that’s actually not true.

I see patients all the time who are thin, healthy, working out consistently, and still frustrated that they can’t get jawline definition. In many cases, the issue is actually deeper structures like the submandibular glands sitting lower underneath the jaw.

As we age, the support underneath the neck relaxes, and those glands can become more noticeable over time. That’s why some people tighten the neck but still feel like something looks “heavy.”

For the right patient, carefully addressing those deeper structures can make a huge difference in creating a cleaner neckline and sharper jawline long term. And honestly, those small details are often what make results look truly natural and refined.
