Last year, we proudly celebrated Kenneth Chang, MD, as the inaugural James & Pamela Muzzy Executive Medical Director Endowed Chair in GI Cancer during a special dedication ceremony at Hoag.

A world-renowned researcher, inventor, and advanced endoscopist, Dr. Chang is advancing prevention, early detection, and minimally invasive treatments across digestive health—helping make Hoag a destination for innovative GI care.

We are deeply grateful to James and Pamela Muzzy for their visionary philanthropy, which continues to strengthen programs and drive excellence across Hoag.

Clinical research is a core pillar of Hoag’s privademic model—our commitment to pairing compassionate, community-based care with the innovation and rigor of academic medicine. Thanks to donor support, patients across Hoag have access to leading-edge therapies, clinical trials, and translational programs that bring breakthroughs directly to the bedside.

Today, Hoag’s research enterprise spans numerous specialties and continues to grow rapidly. With more than 270 active studies, over 150 trials in the pipeline, and an average opening timeline of just 90–120 days, Hoag is giving patients earlier access to promising treatments while accelerating discovery across the health system.

Philanthropy fuels this momentum, empowering investigators and physician-leaders with the resources they need to drive innovation and advance care.

At the Hoag Family Cancer Institute, innovation is accelerating under the leadership of Steven R. Grossman, MD, PhD, the Grace E. Hoag Executive Medical Director Endowed Chair. Since joining Hoag in April 2025, Dr. Grossman has been advancing a bold vision for the future of cancer care—one that brings the most promising scientific breakthroughs directly to patients.

Through philanthropic support, Dr. Grossman is driving key priorities that reflect Hoag’s commitment to precision, compassion, and innovation. His leadership is expanding precision medicine, advancing radiotherapeutics, accelerating cell therapy trials for hard-to-treat solid tumors, strengthening translational research, and elevating integrative oncology to care for the whole person.

This work is made possible through the generosity of the George Hoag Family Foundation, whose establishment of the Grace E. Hoag Executive Medical Director Endowed Chair honors the compassion and community commitment exemplified by Grace Hoag. As Melinda Hoag Smith shared, supporting leaders like Dr. Grossman ensures Hoag continues to deliver care with excellence, dignity, and heart.

Hoag remains grateful for this visionary partnership—and for the momentum it brings to advancing cancer care in our community.

Hoag is honored to celebrate the newly dedicated Allan & Sandy Fainbarg Reflection Garden, a tranquil space created in tribute to a family whose generosity has shaped Hoag for decades. Nancy and Irv Chase recently visited the Worship Center to see the new signage honoring Nancy’s parents and the legacy they continue to inspire.

Located near the Tree of Life memorial on the Sun Family Campus in Irvine, the garden offers a peaceful place for reflection, remembrance, and spiritual comfort. We are deeply grateful to the Fainbarg and Chase families for their longstanding support and for helping create a space that holds such meaning for patients, families, and caregivers. As we anticipate the exciting openings later this year at Hoag’s Sun Family Campus in Irvine, we also take a moment to reflect on the incredible progress made so far. Last August we celebrated a significant milestone with the ribbon cutting of the Du Family Hospital Pavilion, a moment made possible through the extraordinary generosity and vision of the Du family, the Sun family, and so many supporters who believe in Hoag’s mission.

Benjamin and Carmela Du joined Hoag leaders and community partners to officially open the pavilion, which now serves as a welcoming gateway to compassionate care and innovation. Reflecting on their family’s long-standing partnership with Hoag, Benjamin shared that their support has always been about people and about ensuring healthcare remains excellent, accessible, and rooted in community.

These new facilities represent more than expansion, they reflect a collective commitment to elevating care for our growing community. We are deeply grateful to everyone whose partnership and philanthropy make these moments possible.

As we reflect on the year, we’re grateful for the leadership and partnership that continue to strengthen Hoag’s mission.

Our Board Chair, Debbie Margolis, shares her deep appreciation for the opportunity to serve alongside Hoag’s dedicated staff, physicians, volunteers, and fellow board members. As her term concludes at the end of 2025, her enthusiasm for Hoag’s future remains as strong as ever.

Debbie and her husband Jeff are proud supporters of digestive health, a personally meaningful area that is entering a transformative moment at Hoag. With new facilities rising on the Sun Family Campus in Irvine and top physicians joining our team, Hoag is making a bold investment in elevating digestive care for our community.

Debbie reminds us that each of us has a role in advancing health and well-being in Orange County. Whether through time, advocacy, or philanthropic support, every contribution makes a difference—expanding access, advancing treatments, and shaping the future of care.

Thank you for being part of this extraordinary community. With your passion and Hoag’s unwavering dedication, the journey continues—and the best is yet to come.
