According to Abraham Maslow (super smart psychologist famous for his hierarchy of needs pyramid) - the ultimate goal for humans to achieve is self-actualization.
What is self-actualization?
Self-actualization refers to one’s ability to develop actionable self-awareness that can be applied in a way that simultaneously maximizes one’s:
skills, strengths, and abilities
+
their character
=
in order to actualize meaningful goals, work, relationships, etc., where they maximize the positive/virtuous impact they are capable of having on the people and causes they care about most!
This is what it means to become the best version of yourself - and to live your best life!
So - how many people actually achieve this state of self-actualization??
Maslow believed that less than 1% of people ever actually achieve self-actualization.
Life is tough - and for many of us - the idea of self-actualizing seems like a distant dream - where the day to day reality is focused on just getting by (striving to meet all the basic human needs that have to be fulfilled before one can direct their attention to actualizing their greatest human potential).
Having said this - Maslow acknowledged that knowingly settling for anything less than what we are capable of being - had significant consequences (it starts to eat away at us - causing discontentment, frustration, unhappiness, etc.).
I can personally relate to this (when I knowingly act out of alignment with my values, morals, or settle for mediocrity - I absolutely feel it - and until I course correct - the feeling will linger and/or grow!).
This speaks to a drive that exists in each of us - the motivation to be all of who we were created to be (in our skills and our character).
And we know that the pursuit of this goal - is the key to unlocking our greatest happiness, success, impact, etc.!!
So - why am I writing about this??
Because my mission and calling in life - is to help as many people as I can to self-actualize.
Just imagine if we could increase the percentage of people who achieve this state from 1% to 3%!!
The ripple effect of this would be revolutionary (in the best possible way!).
And I believe that the optimal environment to try and achieve this in - is the business world.
Where having a team full of self-actualized leaders - would not only impact the entire culture of the company - but - also its customers, business partners, their community, etc.!!
AND - achieving this is actually great for business!!
Companies that equip their employees with the tools and resources needed to self-actualize - maximize all the outcomes business owners care about - and minimize the outcomes they want to avoid!!
It’s the ultimate win-win approach!!
And that’s why this is the mission of our True North Radical Resilience program (to help 1,000 businesses - elevate the lives of over 1 million people!).
