High-functioning, but exhausted and in pain? High-achieving, but can’t get the mood swings under control? High-performing, but anxious and irritable while getting things done?

🩺Seen the doctors.
🧪Done the labs.
💊Tried the medications and the supplements.
❤️‍🩹Therapy, too.

But the symptoms (the mood swings, anxiety, irritability, distractibility, exhaustion, broken sleep, medication side effects, memory changes, etc.) persist and have gotten worse.

And, still, no answers.

But on paper, and outside looking in?

Life must be great, and the doctor says, “Everything looks normal.”

And, perhaps this is why Black women experience disproportionately higher rates or severity of...

Inflammation, misdiagnoses, autoimmune disease, missed diagnoses, late diagnoses, premature and preventable loss of life.

As time goes on, it begins to feel like my brain, body, and or "my mind is playing tricks on me."

Yet, there is an inner knowing that something is not right, and is being missed, dismissed, or ignored.

But what?!

Here's what I've learned, after almost 15 years of practicing root-cause family medicine & psychiatry.

When these women finally come to see me, we investigate, and we find that:

Nobody looked at their unique (hi)story.

Nobody dug into the connection between life experiences, whether lived, witnessed, or passed down, and how they impacted their genetics and the persistent symptoms.

Nobody considered how “normal” lab results did not mean “normal” or optimal for them!

Nobody sought to uncover 'the biological why' before diagnosing or prescribing!

The symptoms, side effects, and "nothing" working despite trying "everything" weren't all in their head.

It wasn’t “just stress.”

And it was rarely “treatment resistance.”

They were UNINVESTIGATED!

So I made this free 30-minute video (webinar) to walk you through how Black women are FINALLY getting ANSWERS (uncovering the root cause behind the persistent symptoms), WITHOUT being dismissed, medicated, or told “Everything looks normal.”

Click the link below, enter your information, and then watch the video to finally get answers!

🙋🏾‍♀️Woman to woman, and Black woman to Black woman…

I know I talk about labs A LOT.

And there’s a reason.

Because labs are often the missing piece behind:

• mental health symptoms and diagnoses
• physical health symptoms and diagnoses
• medications not working
• misdiagnoses
• multiple medications
• declining health
• early chronic disease
• and even premature death

Here’s what I mean.

Antidepressants can’t compete with inflammation.

Deep breathing can’t compete with magnesium deficiency.

Telling someone to “just think before you act” can’t compete with a VAL/VAL COMT, where the brain has very little dopamine available.

Exercise can’t compete with high oxidized-LDL.

Biology (almost) always wins when you wait or do nothing.

And unfortunately, Black women are impacted by many of these patterns at higher rates.

Not because being Black or being a woman causes these problems.

But because persistent "stress" does.

Covert and overt Racism.
Constant pressure.
Real or perceived threat to safety or livelihood.
The “never let them see you sweat” culture that we had to adapt to, for survival purposes, even!

ALL of that affects our biology.

Which is why race and s*x must ALWAYS be considered in healthcare.

And why labs must be checked and interpreted based on the person in front of us, and not "the majority."

Because things DO look different.

And acting like they don't has real consequences.

So today I want you to do a quick reality check.

Pull up your last labs and see...

“But did they check these...?”
🧪 Magnesium RBC
🧪 Zinc RBC
🧪 Copper RBC
🧪 Oxidized LDL
🧪 Vitamin D
🧪 hs-CRP
🧪 DHEA-S
🧪 Vitamin B6
🧪 CoQ10
🧪 Omega-3 Index
🧪 Whole Blood Histamine
🧪 Homocysteine

If you don’t see them, that tells us something important, and your current health might already be showing what that something is.

This is the work I do.

Helping Black women read between the lines of “everything looks normal,” and finally understand what their mind, brain, and body have been trying to say all along.

So, how many of the 12 that I listed have been checked?

🙋🏾‍♀️Incoming Question: Any vitamin recommendations for menopausal Black women?

Let’s talk PREmenopause, PERImenopause, and POSTmenopause!

🩷PREmenopause (before menopause): health is typically at its best, and menstrual cycles are regular. Overworking, staying up late, partying, studying, pushing the mind, brain, and body to their limits, not eating the healthiest, and figuring out money, relationships, and life in general are also at a high. “Stress” is building, and the mind, brain, and body are (mal)adapting.

Things get overlooked because “age” is on our side, but the uterine fibroids, anemia, inflammation, panic, insomnia, mood changes, malnourishment, etc are on their way as a result.

🩷PERImenopause (transitioning into menopause): The mood changes, irritability, sleepless nights, night sweats, weight changes, hot flashes, high blood pressure, fertility issues, inflammation, and irregular cycles start to hit hard, becoming near impossible to overlook, and where risks for or the onset of heart disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, cancers, and autoimmune disease increase!

🩷POSTmenopause (no menstrual cycles for at least 1 year): The time when heart disease, osteoporosis, memory issues, and polypharmacy (being on multiple medications) become the “norm,” and where those perimenopausal symptoms, like the hot flashes, can continue.

Each phase (PRE, PERI, and POST menopause) is the result of hormonal shifts, shifts alone, as you can see, are in and of themselves ROOT CAUSES of mental & physical illness, symptoms, and diagnoses!

Therefore, agency, improving, maintaining & understanding health(care), vaccines, and screenings are all KEY to early detection, intervention (treatment), and disease PREVENTion!

To answer the question. Yep, there are specific brands that I love and recommend, based on the specific mind, brain, and body needs of my patients.

BUT the magic is in the lifestyle, like FOOD, first, and then in the quality, dosing, formulation, and brand!

By the way, this page and posts are ALWAYS & ONLY for general education purposes!

Keep the questions coming!

❓Did you know that your lab results can speak to the quality of your past, present, and future health...and relationships?!?

Let's take a few from the🧪10 Critical Labs Doctors Don't Check For Black Women (And Why They Matter) Guide!

🧪Zinc gives me an idea of their ability or inability to regulate their mood on their own, or that they lost their sense of smell, and aren't eating as a result.

🧪Vitamin D tells me about the quality and amount of their sleep, or the lack thereof.

🧪Homocysteine tells me that dementia or memory loss is coming if nothing changes.

🧪Whole Blood Histamine tells me about their low tolerance to pain, racing thoughts when they try to sleep, and that they might even be a perfectionist.

🧪hs-CRP tells me their gut isn't acting right, and that their medications might not be working.

🧪Oxidized LDL tells me that a heart attack or a stroke is in the near future, even if they're only 35!

🧪Omega-3 Index tells me their brain, attention, drive, motivation, and focus are all struggling!

🧪Copper tells me that their mood can go from 0 to 100 real quick. They might have a bad reaction to birth control, and may also have a history of being in unhealthy relationships.

Now imagine the impact of no sleep, not eating, emotional outbursts that go from 0 to 100, poor physical health, perfectionism & an insecure attachment style on romantic, friend, business partner, customer, and family relationships!!

If you want a second opinion to see if something is being missed, overlooked, or dismissed.

It's mood swings... to chill mode, and stable.
It's anxious... to calm.
It's exhausted, brain fog, and on edge... to energetic, active, and living life to the fullest.
It's multiple medications, with side effects... to one medication that works, and using the lifestyle as medicine, too!
It's believing it was bipolar disorder... to finding out it was zinc deficiency, and ADHD all along.

It's knowing something ain't right...to knowing what the "something" is.

It's downloading, and reading the 🧪10 Critical Labs Doctors Don't Order For Black Women (And Why They Matter) Guide... to start finding out.

It's knowing what to test... to actually testing.

Because knowing and doing are two different things.

And until those labs are intentionally ordered, reviewed, and interpreted in context, through a holistic medicine lens…

It's still guessing.

And it's still symptoms being missed, dismissed, overlooked, and under-investigated.

Until discovering and joining The Get Your Mind Right & AFYA Up-Founders Cohort: 🧪10+2 Critical Labs Investigation

A 4-week group clinical experience where:

✔️ 🧪10+2 Critical Labs are intentionally ordered
✔️ Learning to interpret your lab results takes place. Come through clarity, health literacy, and self-advocacy!
✔️ Receiving a private & personalized 1:1 lab review with me, and finally being seen, heard, and taken seriously happens.
✔️ Moving through the process inside a professionally guided cohort of other Black women leaders, role models, and game changers, committed to getting their minds right and their Afya(health) up, because we really are better together!

It's not more information. It's not being told "everything looks normal," when your mind, brain, and body say the complete opposite.

It's getting to answers and changing trajectories!

Because more information is empowering...until it's not.

Begins March 12!

First 10 Founders seats: $697
Remaining Founders seats: $797
FSA/HSA Accepted!

Move from information to awareness to getting things done, as it relates to health, well-being, and prosperity...this is that next step!

Secure your seat. Share the invitation. Let's get it.

🙋🏾‍♀️ Downloaded the 🧪10 Critical Labs guide.
Watched the videos.
Read the Clinical Health(care) Literacy Briefing.
Completed the checklists.
Taken the medication.
Tried the supplements.
Done the therapy.
Ate less. Worked out more.

Done. All. The. Things.

Now you know:

“Everything looks normal” doesn’t always mean optimal.
Clinical under-investigation is real.
And it isn’t always “treatment resistance.”

So when symptoms persist, the question becomes:

What is it?

Because information doesn’t reduce uncertainty.

Evaluation, Investigation, and Interpretation do.

And until yourlabs are intentionally ordered, reviewed, and placed in context, the very health-expensive guessing game most definitely continues

That’s why I created:

The Get Your Mind Right & AFYA Up: 🧪10+2 Critical Labs Investigation Founders Cohort.

This is a structured, intentionally designed group clinical experience.

A focused 4-week investigation where you:
🫱🏿‍🫲🏾Get 🧪10+2 Critical Labs that are intentionally ordered
🫱🏿‍🫲🏾Learn to interpret your patterns, and not chase what's “normal” for everyone else
🫱🏿‍🫲🏾Receive a private 1:1 lab review + personalized action plan
🫱🏿‍🫲🏾Connect with women inside a professionally facilitated group

And yep, the group setup is intentional.

Because meaningful social connection is consistently associated with improved stress regulation, resilience, and overall health outcomes.

We are not investigating in isolation.

We are investigating alongside other Black women who are equally committed to being the empowered resource and director of their health...and life, inside a clinically guided container.

The Founders Cohort begins March 12 at 12PM on Zoom.

Enrollment is capped at 42 participants.

First 10 seats: $697 + Early Enrollment Founders Privileges
Remaining Founders seats: $797 + Founders Privileges

Future cohorts increase from there.

This is ONLY for those who are ready to move from awareness to investigation, with structure, accountability, AND community. This is the next step.

So let's get it!

Secure your seat now. Then share the invitation with someone else!

🙋🏾‍♀️"I've tried what seems like everything."
"I was labeled treatment resistant or complex."
"I was told my labs were normal, but I don't (mentally or physically) feel that way."

When mental and physical health seem to be getting worse, “treatment resistance,” "Watch and wait," or adding on another medication aren't always the answer.

If our...

Have resonated thus far, then "Have the experiences and symptoms I've reported been fully investigated?" might be the question at the top of mind.

This 3-minute, 8-section 📋Clinical Under-Investigation Reflection Checklist outlines common signs that clinical investigation may have stopped short across mental and physical healthcare.

Nope, it’s not meant to diagnose.

It’s simply a tool to assist in noticing whether any of the signs feel familiar...or not.

✔️Following the instructions.
✔️Taking the medications.
✔️Going to the appointments.
✔️Seeing the specialists.
✔️Tracking the symptoms.
✔️Pressing through.

And still…nothing.

I see this every week in my practice.

High-achieving, brilliant, "strong," responsible, making boss moves, intuitive, doing all the “right” things, but still not feeling mentally and/or physically well.

And still being told:
⚠️ “Your case is complex.”
🧠 “Maybe it’s anxiety.”
⚕️ “Let’s try another prescription.”

And of course, my favorite…🧪 “Your labs are normal.”

“Normal,” as it pertains to lab results, simply means (on average) disease is not or should not be present (on paper and in theory).

It doesn’t mean the disease isn't developing or that you can't be experiencing symptoms of it now; in healthcare, we call this “subclinical.”

You can learn A LOT from something as simple as labs, interpreted through a personalized, race & ethnicity-integrated, functional, preventative, and lifestyle medicine lens, though.

Before medications are started, added, or even discontinued.
Before a psychiatric diagnosis is added.
Before the label of “treatment resistant” is entertained.
Before you start to believe “nothing works.”
Before things get worse!

To make this practical, and to name a few for you to consider checking 😉...
🧪Homocysteine
🧪Vitamin B12
🧪Insulin
🧪hs-CRP
🧪Total Cholesterol
🧪Vitamin D

Each affects brain health (cognition, memory, dementia risk, etc.), with each being a modifiable risk factor for diagnoses such as Alzheimer’s Disease.

So if a patient of mine is high risk for, starts to develop signs of, or even has a diagnosis of dementia, at minimum, I know what labs to check and optimize, supplements to recommend, and medications to prescribe (or even avoid if possible) in advance!!

Because it is possible to treat AND prevent at the same time.

Until next time, BE the empowered resource and director of your health!

And prosper in ALL ways, always, and BE in good health~3 John 1:2
