We've all been guilty of it at least once, but using cotton swabs to clean your ears can lead to even bigger problems. A much safer option is to try ear drops like carbamide peroxide at home for a few days to soften the wax. Cotton swabs just push earwax further into the ear canal, often leaving it impacted near the eardrum. Impacted earwax can cause a feeling of fullness or blockage, hearing loss, dizziness, and ear pain. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, then it is time to see an ENT who can safely remove impacted wax in the office.
