Bon Secours was proud to host another successful Camp Scrubs, this time at Bon Secours — Maryview Medical Center! High school students dove into real-world medical experience, learning from the pros in surgery, emergency care, therapy and more!

A very special thank you to our community partners, including Portsmouth Fire EMS, LifeNet, the Medical Examiner’s Office and more, for helping bring the world of health care to life outside the hospital, too. We’re proud to inspire the next generation of health care professionals right here in Hampton Roads!

Congratulations to our 2025 summer student nurse externs! Over the past 8 weeks, these future nurses gained hands-on experience working alongside RN preceptors across our Bon Secours — Hampton Roads hospitals. From real-world patient care to applying new clinical skills, they made the most of every moment. Now, they’re heading into their final year (or final semester) of nursing school and we couldn’t be more proud.

Shining bright and celebrating excellence! Bon Secours — Mary Immaculate Hospital’s emergency department has received the 2025 Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurses Association!

This prestigious award recognizes leadership, innovation and compassionate care that improve patient outcomes and staff well-being. Our MIH ED team was honored for streamlining patient flow, enhancing safety and creating a better experience for every patient and family.

“We are incredibly proud of our emergency department team for this well-deserved recognition,” said Ashlee Stevens, VP & Chief Nursing Officer.

Fewer than 100 emergency departments nationwide earned this distinction in 2025!

Kathy found new strength in cardiac rehab thanks to a recumbent bike—and no more joint pain! Bon Secours Foundation's donor generosity is helping patients like her exercise safely and feel great every week. 🚴‍♀️💪

Kathy Heath had two heart procedures. She had a mitral valve replacement and tricuspid repair. As she worked to regain her strength, she worried about finding rehab exercises she could do. Ones that wouldn’t trigger the arthritis in her knees and hips. Little did she know a recumbent bike donors provided would be the answer to her prayers.

“It’s one of my favorite machines to work on,” she says. “There’s no pain with the bike. I go three days a week now and feel great. Once I get going on the bike, it’s almost like it’s moving me instead of me moving it.”

Thanks to donor generosity, cardiac rehab patients like Kathy have access to exercise equipment. Recumbent bikes put rehab patients in a safe, reclined position while they build strength in their arms and legs.
