Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center

Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center (PPCC) is a nonprofit 501c3 organization. We treat adults, adolescents, and children.

For more than 50 years, PPCC has served individuals, couples, and families by providing professional counseling and consultation in a faith context. The Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center (PPCC) is a nonprofit organization that offers professional counseling and consultation in a faith context. “Professional counseling and consultation” has to do with our professional, highly qualified, state licensed staff. “Faith context” has to do with our awareness of spiritual issues and the way that the faith of our clients is a potential resource for healing. We respect the beliefs of our clients and do not impose our own beliefs on those we serve. Trained to integrate the gifts of behavioral science and of faith, we care for people who are struggling with marriage or family tensions, anxiety, depression, spiritual distress, and workplace issues. We also work within the financial means of our clients. We hope to help people to be more at peace with themselves and with each other. In times of stress and in times of growth, feel free to call us.

Depression, anxiety, stress, grief, and difficult relationships are common experiences for all of us. None of us have to keep everything pulled together all the time. When someone needs help, PPCC is here.

Breaking down barriers to care is one of our most important values. That’s why we offer our clients access to telehealth, so that transportation issues, illnesses, scheduling conflicts, or mobility challenges don’t get in the way of receiving support when they are struggling.

Hope is so important to our mental well-being, but when we experience a mental health condition, hope can be the first thing that goes. Many people suffer in silence because they are embarrassed. But talking about these things truly helps! Let’s break the stigma that surrounds mental illness.

We know that our counselors can help improve the quality of people’s lives, so please consider making a contribution for Give Local 757 on Cinco de Mayo that will ripple out hope into Hampton Roads! https://www.givelocal757.org/give/Peninsula-Pastoral-Counseling-Center

We have TWO very helpful workshops for you this month!

On Fri, April 17th Rev. Dr. Raja Samuel Rajaratnam, graduate practicum student, will help us understand and practice effective self-care strategies to enhance our overall well-being and resilience.

On Tue, April 28th Rev. Chesla Nickelson, Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy, will explore definitions of boundaries, how to implement them and maintain them, and ways to practice saying “no” to harm and “yes” to help.

Both workshops are free, but registration is required.

A good laugh reduces stress, increases endorphins, decreases blood pressure, aids muscle relaxation, improves your immune system, eases pain, and improves your mood. So, spend time with friends that make you giggle. Read that funny book. Look online at joke websites or silly videos. Listen to humorous podcasts. Go to a comedy club. Therapist’s orders! Laughter is good medicine.

As a nonprofit, access to care remains one of the most important parts of our mission. Because of donor generosity, cost was not the deciding factor between suffering alone and receiving care. When someone chooses to donate to PPCC they are ensuring that counseling remains accessible to neighbors who otherwise might not have been able to afford it. More than 1000 sessions last year were provided through our financial assistance program!

Children and young people continue to represent the greatest need of those we serve. When a child struggles, an entire family feels the impact. When that child gains tools and confidence, the entire family grows stronger. We work with children in a variety of ways, but one option for younger children is using our play therapy room. Play therapy is a structured, therapeutic approach for children that uses play—a child's natural language—to express emotions, process trauma, and resolve behavioral issues.
