🎃Tomorrow is the last day to vote — online or in person — for your favorite pumpkin! 🎃 100% of donations are going to the University of Tennessee Cancer Foundation in Memory of Ward Williams 💙. There are two ways to vote and donate:

1. Come in and vote for your favorite pumpkin by dropping any amount of money into the cup next to your favorite pumpkin. Every penny equals one vote! So $1.00 is 100 votes! In person voting ends November 8th, 2024 at 3pm.

2. Cast your vote in the comments of this post or my previous video post, using the numbers 1-6. For every online vote in the comments, I’ll personally donate $1.00 (up to $200 total combined across Facebook and Instagram). We only have 12 online votes right now…LET’S FIX THAT! Online voting ends November 8th, 2024 at 11:59pm. One vote per person.

All pumpkins are hand painted and designed by the staff and family of Healthstar Premier Medical West!

You can find us at 994 W. Hwy. 25-70 Ste. 4 Newport, TN. If you have any questions, please call us at 423-237-6964, option 2.

Grease, but make it ZOMBIES 🧟‍♂️☢️! If you have an appointment today, there will be zombies present ‼️ We promise, however, that our brains are still intact and that we don’t bite…but we might break into random song and dance 🎶! Happy Halloween! 🧟 🎃

Don’t forget to vote for your favorite pumpkin in person or in the previous post! Voting ends November 8th. All donations are going to the UT Cancer Foundation in memory of Ward Williams.

Just wrapped up an enlightening four days at the Obesity Medicine Association’s annual conference in Denver, CO! 🌟💼 It was incredible to immerse myself in the latest research, treatments, and strategies for combating obesity and promoting healthier lifestyles – and to see some of my favorite fellow obesity medicine physicians: and Dr. Mark Schwartz! From innovative therapies to impactful patient care techniques, every session left me feeling inspired and empowered to continue to help others lose weight in healthy, sustainable ways. Huge shoutout to all the speakers and organizers for an amazing event! Let’s continue to work together to make strides in the fight against obesity.

MD: Medical Doctorate

Earning my MD included four years of medical school at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine in Memphis, TN . I then completed three years of Family Medicine Residency at The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee , where I served as co-chief resident and was awarded the Resident Teacher Award from The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM). I’m board-certified in family medicine through both the American Board of Family Medicine and The National Board of Physicians and Surgeons and maintain these certifications through continuing medical education and exams.

FAAFP: Fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine

“Fellows of the AAFP are recognized as champions of family medicine. They are the physicians who make family medicine the premier specialty in service to their community and profession. From a personal perspective, being a Fellow signifies not only 'tenure' but additional work in your community, within organized medicine, within teaching, and a greater commitment to continuing professional development and/or research.”
-AAFP

DABOM: Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine

Becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine signifies that I am board-certified in obesity medicine. Being board-certified in obesity medicine means I’ve undergone additional – and extensive – medical training and testing in the evaluation, management, and treatment of obesity and overweight. This creates a deep knowledge of the complex disease of obesity to properly and compassionately address the root(s) of the problem(s) and to help people lose weight and improve health in ways that are safe, sustainable, long-lasting, and backed by evidence.

Everyone has a different reason for WHY they might want to lose weight. My personal and professional why is to prevent or delay obesity-associated cancers and health complications. For me, this also means getting more time to enjoy my favorite parts of life.

The truth is, there are currently 13 different types of cancer associated with obesity and over 200 complications that arise from the disease of obesity, and let’s be for real…ain't nobody got time for that! (Sources: Obesity Medicine Association and The Obesity Society.)

Having a WHY can help you stay on top of your goals. If you have a why you want to share, comment below!

A good night's sleep is essential for good health, and achieving it means reaching a certain quantity (hours) of quality sleep! Not getting enough sleep and waking up frequently can lead to a host of health problems, including weight gain (check out slide 4!), decreased immune function, increased risk of heart disease, and more! In addition, lack of sleep can also affect your mood, energy levels, and ability to think clearly.

Make sure you and any kids are getting the recommended hours of sleep per night by creating a relaxing and consistent bedtime routine, turning off screens at least an hour before bed, and keeping your bedroom dark, quiet, and on the cooler side (i.e. low to mid-60s). Remember, sleep is so important that ⅓ of our life is spent sleeping!

Have you already found a good sleep routine? Or what can you start doing today to help create a better sleep environment for yourself and/or your kids?
