Rhonda Lynn Wayne (Harrison)
Rhonda Lynn Wayne (Harrison) was born December 1, 1957, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She spent many childhood summers on her grandparents’ farm, where her lifelong love of horses and country life took root. A driven and accomplished student, Rhonda was a standout athlete at West Kildonan High School in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she held a track record for long-distance running. A real go-getter, Rhonda was named runner-up for Miss Teen Winnipeg, worked as a model, and ran her own dog grooming business; she later became an amateur bodybuilder and aerobics instructor. While working in the racing office of Assiniboia Downs, she met the love of her life John F. Wayne of New York. They soon married and moved to Kentucky, where they both worked at Turfway Park. For several years, they traveled the country with John’s career as a racing investigator and a shared sense of adventure. Rhonda had a lifelong devotion to animals. Many of the dogs, cats, and even horses who found their way to her were not formally adopted but were taken in when others had abandoned them. If an animal needed a home, she gave them one or found them one. Rhonda was a devoted steward to her four-legged friends. Horses always held a special place in her heart – especially Arabian horses – and she had a deep love for her Standard Poodles and Salukis. Rhonda loved music and dancing – she was the life of the party. In her later years she enjoyed the comforts of home with plenty of Werther’s Caramels, strawberry milkshakes, ice cold Pepsi (her favorite), and Hazelnut creamer in her many cups of coffee. She loved watching Animal Planet, western movies, & visiting with her grandson. Rhonda passed away on March 4, 2026. She will be remembered as a fighter, an overcomer, and above all, a steadfast steward of her animals. She is survived by her daughter, Daphne Walters (Thomas), and her grandson, Phoenix; as well as her Canadian family including her mother, Pauline Harrison; her brother, Robert Harrison and his wife, Michelle; her beloved nephew, Dylan (Galen); her niece, Tori (Eric); and many loving cousins and extended family. She will be forever loved and forever missed. In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends to honor Rhonda’s memory with a donation to the Boone County Animal Shelter in Burlington, KY. Per her wishes, no funeral service will be held.

Joan M. Makras
Joan M. Makras, 92, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, at Mt. Washington Care Center after a long illness. Born on January 21, 1934, in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, she was the beloved daughter of Morris Smith and Rose (Howell) Smith. Joan lived a full and vibrant life marked by her strong spirit, deep devotion to family, and unmistakable honesty. For many years, she helped manage the family’s sculpting business, as well as painted reproduced statues that were sold at art shows across the country. Her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit were evident in everything she did. She also worked for many years at Walmart, beginning in the photo department and later in soft lines. Outside of work, Joan found joy in gardening, reading, and creating all types of art. She also had a special love for animals — especially her cherished dogs, who brought her endless companionship and happiness throughout the years. Known for her spunky personality and candid nature, Joan never hesitated to speak her mind. Beneath that bold exterior, however, was a deeply loving woman whose greatest joy was her family. She adored her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and took immense pride in each of them. Her strength, resilience, and fierce love will remain with them always. Joan was preceded in death by her three sons, Christian Stegeman, Daniel Stegeman, and Mark Makras; her brothers, Morris Smith, Edward Smith, Lloyd Smith, and Robert Smith; and her sisters, Patricia Franzen, Mary Niehaus, and Margaret Hall. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Karen Stegeman; her grandchildren, Alex Stegeman (Grace), Shannon Stegeman (Jacob Webster), Becky Panno (Alec), Justin Stegeman, Chelsea Stegeman, Annie Stegeman, and Taylor Stegeman; as well as eight great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mt. Washington Care Center for the compassionate care she received over the years and to Fares J. Radel Funeral Homes and Crematory for assisting the family with final arrangements. A celebration of Joan’s life will be announced at a later date. Joan leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and cherished memories that will live on in the stories, laughter, and love she shared. In lieu of flowers, please honor Joan’s free spirit and generous heart by doing something kind for someone — just because you can.

Ashley Nicole (Patterson) Kindoll
With hearts full of love and loss, we remember Ashley Nicole (Patterson) Kindoll, who passed away on January 16, 2026. Ashley was a beautiful soul whose presence brought comfort, warmth, and joy to those who knew her. Though words feel small in the face of such a loss, her love will forever remain. Ashley was deeply cherished by her husband, Michael Kindoll, and by her family—her mother and stepfather, Melissa and Mike Stamm, and her father and stepmother, William and Jeanetta Patterson. She was a loving sister to Adam Patterson (Karina) and Dylan Kinnett (Lydia), and a devoted aunt to Abby, Sabrina, Gracelyn, Gabe, Peyton, Felicia, and Noah. She was also blessed with the love of her grandparents, Debbie Patterson, Mary and Mike Griffin, Patty Kennedy & Sally and Terry Stamm, whose support and care surrounded her throughout her life. Ashley now rests in heaven with her beloved sister, Autumn Patterson, her Grandma Katie, Papaw Bill, and her favorite uncles, Wayne and Harry, all welcoming her home with open arms. Ashley found joy in life’s simple comforts—watching wrestling, getting lost in a good book, and being a devoted Swiftie, finding meaning and emotion in the music she loved. She also adored her fur babies, Buttercup and Nymieria, whose companionship brought her peace, laughter, and unconditional love. Though her time here was far too short, Ashley’s kindness, softness, and love left an everlasting mark. She will be remembered in quiet moments, familiar songs, favorite pages of well-loved books, and in the deep love she gave so freely. She was, and always will be, deeply loved. Celebration of Life to follow later this year.

James Farmer, Jr.
Son of James Farmer Sr. and Martha Herald Farmer. Survived by his son Steven Farmer, daughter-in-law Tamara Dubinsky, granddaughter Lauren Farmer, brother Jack Farmer, sisters, Kathleen Hartman, Sharon Richardson and Karen Farmer. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Farmer, sisters, Dorothy Braun, Ona Mae Gilbert and Evon Herald. Jim was fiercely independent, a great basketball player in his day and most of all loved his family. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea. Upon retiring from Velva Sheen, Jim wanted to give back to the community that he loved. He spent the last twenty years of his life as a referee for recreational sports such as soccer, volleyball, softball and basketball. He was fair but maybe made the occasional call for family and friends. To know Jim was to like him. A memorial gathering will be held Friday, January 23rd, from 3 – 6 pm at the Southgate VFW (6 Electric Ave, Southgate, KY 41071).
