What's your favorite spring flower?

Trillium ovatum’s common names are “western trillium” and “wake robin,” the latter due to its unofficial designation as harbinger of spring. Trillium comes from modern Latin, reportedly an alteration of the Swedish trilling, meaning “triplet,” which refers to its three leaves and three petals. Ovatum is derived from the Latin o**m meaning “egg-shaped,” which describes the leaf outline.

Pollination happens thanks to native bumble bees, moths, and beetles. The resulting fruit is fleshy and berrylike; the seeds evolved to have fleshy elaiosomes whose nutritious proteins and fats attract muscular ants who carry the seeds back home to feed their young. After the food is consumed, they toss the still viable seed and, voila! Seed dispersal accomplished.

Sometimes the best thing to boost your mood in the forest is a good ol' s'mores competition. Bacon/maple donuts and salmon berries are a nice touch too! Every time we have a new kid in groups, we have s'mores to welcome and celebrate them. How do you welcome and celebrate newcomers to your life?

Hi everyone. I never thought I'd be back on this platform, but the work and the kids are too important to miss this great tool for connection. We work with youth having complex needs and often tragic backgrounds. Nature is a relationship that will never leave them and will always be there for them. From the obvious health benefits, the social skills and the learning of many lessons and knowledge lost to most in our society today, these youth transform before our eyes and achieve health and happiness. If anyone is interested to learn more, message me and/or ask questions. We'd like to spread our knowledge far and wide.
