We are in for some brutal winter weather this coming weekend, Vermont! Please use caution when spending any time outdoors or traveling. Below 0 temperatures can cause frostbite in a matter of minutes! Be sure to check on your loved ones and neighbors, too.

Due to a significant increase in influenza cases and other respiratory illnesses among patients, staff, and community, Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) will be implementing universal masking effective Tuesday, January 20.

The decision is based on current surveillance and was made in collaboration with Medical Leadership and Infection Prevention, said NVRH Chief Medical Officer Ryan Sexton.
“The medical team will continue to closely monitor local and facility-specific positivity rates and update this policy accordingly,” he said in a statement. “We plan to re-evaluate the need for universal masking in three weeks.”

NVRH staff will be required to wear a mask while in patient-facing areas, including treatment spaces, waiting rooms, registration areas, and public hallways. Staff are encouraged to wear masks when outside of their own individual office areas including communal spaces and conference rooms. Patients and visitors are strongly encouraged to wear masks at all times while at NVRH facilities

There are other steps you can take to prevent the spread of respiratory illness.
• Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• If you feel sick or have symptoms like a fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose, or shortness of breath, stay home.
• Stay up to date on vaccines. Vaccines help protect against serious illness, and if you do get sick, can lessen the severity and duration.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our community healthy.

💌 Let’s Spread Some Love This Valentine’s Day! 💌

We’re inviting crafters, card makers, classrooms, schools, community groups, families, and neighbors of all ages to help us brighten Valentine’s Day for our older neighbors with handmade cards.

A simple, homemade Valentine can mean the world — especially when it comes from kids. In a time when there’s so much heaviness around us, this is a beautiful way to spread kindness, connection, and joy. ❤️

How you can help:
✨ Make homemade Valentine’s Day cards
✨ All ages welcome — kids, teens, adults, and groups
✨ Cards can be sweet, funny, colorful, or heartfelt

Important notes:

Please do not include envelopes

Bonus points if cards fit inside a #10 business-sized envelope (like a tri-fold letter — this helps us use donated envelopes!)

📅 Deadline: Monday, February 2
This gives our volunteers time to count, stuff, address, and stamp envelopes for delivery.

Drop-off or mailing options:
📍 Drop off at our Newport or St. Johnsbury offices
📞 Call us to arrange a pick-up
📬 Or mail to:
