In the U.S., overall survival for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) dipped by 14% in 2020 compared with 2019 (10.5% to 9.0%) and bystander CPR decreased by 2% (41.2% to 40.2%), according to the Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES).

The metrics are among the data collected by CARES, which helps communities and public health organizations monitor quality of care for OHCA, and allows for local quality improvement and benchmarking to improve patient care and survival rates. AHA is a supporter of CARES.

Is your EMS community interested in knowing its quality of care for OHCA? Fill out this form if your EMS agency is interested in participating in the CARES program at http://spr.ly/6183JkaZZ.
