A busy month for Health Sciences students! In September, our students earned certifications including Stop the Bleed, Medical Ethics, and HIPAA Awareness for healthcare professionals. We also had some wonderful guest speakers who took time to visit our program: thank you Heidi Laramee, DPT, and Amy Maxwell, OTR for teaching our students about the fields of physical and occupational therapy and thank you to Kevin Adams, EMT, from AHEC for coming and teaching our students about the importance of cummunication and teamwork. Students are off to a great start and ready to start clinical shadowing next week!

Students took a break from Infection Control curriculum today to dissect some fresh bovine organs...eyeball, liver, lungs, tongue and "pluck" (heart, lungs, trachea, esophagus). Incredible educational opportunity to see anatomy on a "grand" scale. Bonus: organs provided by a student and her family

Win-win all around as students assist their instructor in providing veterinary care at the Pope Memorial Frontier Animal Society, who has been beyond welcoming both in preparing a space with supplies and a warm welcome for every single student. The students are learning the importance of providing community service while at the same time learning hands-on technical skills, including physical exam, diagnostics, prophylactic and therapeutic care. And having so much fun in the process!

One of last year's Health Sciences students just returned from a year abroad in Indonesia!! She returned with a wealth of experiences and knowledge. It was the trip of a lifetime but we're glad to have her back!

Wow!!! What a great morning at the STEM district middle school science fair held here at the NCUHS gym. All our NCUHS/NCCC STEM students participated in guiding and leading middle school students through a variety of hands-on STEM activities. Our STEM students served as mentors, guides, MCs (and amazing ones at that!), and especially as teachers and role models.
