Today, NKHS had the privilege of hosting employees from the Vermont Department of Mental Health Su***de Prevention Program at the NKHS 988 Call Center and Front Porch Mental Health Urgent Care facility to learn more about how the crisis continuum of care works here in the Northeast Kingdom. NBC5 and VTDigger also joined the day to help shine a light on Vermont's growing crisis response system.

As part of Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, we're working to share the many ways Vermonters can access support during a mental health crisis. Front Porch and our 988 team are key pieces of this system, and work together to help Vermonters. We also had the opportunity to share construction updates at the Front Porch and show a couple of the completed crisis beds there.

Terri Lavley, NKHS Director of Community Engagement, and Josh Burke, NKHS Emergency Services Director, had the honor of connecting with keynote speaker AnneMoss Rogers at today’s 2025 Vermont Su***de Prevention Symposium in Burlington.

This powerful, day-long event — hosted by the Vermont Department of Mental Health & the Vermont Collaborative for Practice Improvement & Innovation — brought together leaders, clinicians, educators, peer support workers, families, and advocates to focus on building equitable, sustainable, and comprehensive approaches to su***de prevention.

AnneMoss, a motivational mental health and TEDx speaker, author, trainer, and su***de loss survivor, shared her deeply moving story and expertise on emotional wellness, su***de prevention, and postvention. Her authenticity and message of hope are helping communities nationwide find the strength and tools they need to save lives.

Staff from RCT, Umbrella and NKHS spent the weekend at the Barton Fair sharing resources and supports offered in our communities. It was a beautiful weekend, even with the much needed rain, connecting with so many NEK'ers.

September is National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, a time for us to share a message of hope and healing as well as remember the lives lost to su***de. Whether it's promoting awareness of resources available, or checking in on a loved one or neighbor, we all have a role to play in su***de prevention.

Support is available 24/7 via phone call, text, or chat from the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline for those struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts as well as for anyone concerned about someone they care about.
