As we celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to take a moment to recognize the hard work and dedication of our amazing Technicians and Medical Assistants.

Our Techs and Medical Assistants are the backbone of our organization, providing essential support to our clinicians and helping to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care.

MA's provide additional support and obtain crucial data for providers to completely assess and treat our clients. They also assist with administering tests and collecting labs for our clients, to improve treatment outcomes.

Technicians help foster and grow client-provider relationships, building trust and improving the overall experience for folks in our care. They also support our teams by scheduling appointments and monitoring treatments. Most importantly, Techs act as advocates and help us build client treatment plans by obtaining additional information on the symptoms people may be feeling.

We know that we couldn't do it without them, and we're so grateful for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to our clients. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we're shining a spotlight on our Techs and Medical Assistants and all they do to support the mental health needs of our communities.

February is Black History Month! This month, we want to highlight the achievements of Black leaders in mental health research and social progress. We must also hold space for the unique challenges the Black community faces when navigating mental health struggles.

According to Mental Health America, over 16% of Black and African Americans reported experiencing mental illness struggles in the past year. Historical adversity presents intersections that can create barriers to high-quality care for Black families. As mental health professionals, it is our duty to continue to establish resources to meet the needs of all underserved communities.

Over the next month, we will be sharing news and updates from Black leaders in the mental health care space. We hope to lift up Black voices and inspire you to take action to make a difference - whether that's working to proliferate cultural competency in your community, or finding the strength to get help for you or a loved one!

We are deeply saddened to hear the news of the family tragedy out of the Duxbury, Massachusetts area. Northeast Health Services, another member of our Transformations Care Network Family, has served the local community through their Plymouth team for many years.

While there are complicated factors involved in any tragedy, we think this is an important time to highlight that maternal mental health needs special attention before, during and after pregnancy.

We often see images of happy, joyful moms and babies in media, but these representations can be unrealistic. In fact, it is very common for the hormone changes and stress events around pregnancy to have a negative impact on mental health - and part of the danger in these issues is that they can be hard to talk about.

Feelings of sadness, hopelessness and isolation are normal for new or soon-to-be moms to experience, but they can also be signs of depression and anxiety. If left unchecked, these symptoms can cause parents with no resources or outlets to act out in ways that are unsafe for themselves and the people around them.

We encourage all families to reach out to a professional if these kinds of feelings are occurring. There are supports available in your community - we can help.
