Catawba County Emergency Medical Services provides a full array of pre-hospital medical care including advanced life support, basic life support, specialty care transports, non-emergency transports, and supports a number of specialty teams. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality of pre-hospital care to our citizens and visitors to our county. Catawba County EMS has been recognized for our services with several awards, including our most recent American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Award. A division of Catawba County Emergency Services, Catawba County EMS works closely with local rescue squads, fire departments, hospitals, and other agencies within the county. Our ambulances are staffed with Paramedics, Advanced EMTs, and EMTs. Representatives of Catawba County Government communicate via this website. Consequently, any communication via this site is considered public (whether by a county employee or the general public) and may be subject to monitoring and disclosure to 3rd parties.

During the month of September, Catawba County EMS had the privilege of training our Paramedic-level providers on our newly acquired Hamilton T1 ventilators. These ventilators will be used to breathe for patients who have been intubated, or who live with tracheostomies, while transferring them between medical facilities.
These ventilators will help our providers achieve greater consistency in respiratory support, minimize the risk of ventilator-induced lung injury, and afford our team members more time to focus on other time-sensitive interventions while en route to a medical facility.

Catawba County Emergency Services has promoted William Butler to serve as EMS Manager beginning September 13, 2025. Butler has been with Catawba County EMS since 2011 working to provide essential medical services for citizens.

Butler brings significant EMS experience and leadership to his new role, most recently working as an EMS Shift Supervisor. Prior to that he served as an EMT, Paramedic, FTO and EMS Crew Chief.

“As a lifelong resident of Catawba County, I have a deep and personal commitment to the health and well-being of our community,” said Butler. “I take great pride in the essential services we provide to both our residents and visitors, and I’m eager to take on this role.”

A Catawba County native, Butler graduated from Bandys High School, going on to earn a Master of Health Sciences with a concentration in Emergency Medical Care Leadership, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Care from Western Carolina University. He currently resides in Claremont with his wife and 4 children.
