đź’¬ TELL US: How do you connect with your community, a friend, a group, or your family?

Let’s be honest, it’s easy to live in a town for years and still feel like a spectator. But when you lean into your community, you build a "safety net" that catches you when life gets heavy. This sense of belonging is scientifically linked to lower stress levels 〽️, better heart health 💓, and a longer life 👍.

✨ Another teammate is making the move from long-term care. She’s heard great things about our positive work environment and wanted to experience it for herself!

Welcome to the family, everyone! We are so lucky to have you.

Be kind—and keep your heart in mind! ❤️🎞️

If you remember the days of VHS tapes and "Be Kind, Please Rewind," it’s officially time to hit "play" on your preventive health.

Just like those old tapes needed a little care to keep running, your heart needs a check-up too. A cholesterol screening is the best way to know your numbers and keep your heart going strong for years to come.

Our FANS (Food and Nutrition Services) and Newton Meals on Wheels teams have upgraded to the Oliver tray sealing system.

This change is a huge win for our neighbors who depend upon Meals on Wheels every day. The new containers offer:

➡️ Improved heat and cold retention for every delivery.
➡️ Advanced sealing to prevent leaks.
➡️ Larger trays so food stays fresh (and un-crushed!).
➡️ Recipients can now freeze and reheat their meals in the same container.

At least 15 of our dedicated team members are being trained to master this new packaging. Thank you, FANS, for everything you do to support Newton Meals on Wheels! đź’™

The History of Newton Medical Center

More than a century ago, Dr. John T. and Lucena Axtell founded Newton’s first hospital, Axtell Hospital. For four decades, the Axtells served the community until they passed on the hospital to the Kansas Christian Missionary Society. At that time, the name was changed to Axtell Christian Hospital, a Christian Church/Disciples of Christ organization. At the turn of the century, Reverend David Goerz and Sister Frieda Kaufman founded Bethel Deaconess Hospital as a mission of the Mennonite Church. Mennonite deaconesses remained involved with the hospital’s operations until 1983. On Jan. 1, 1988, the two hospitals merged to become Newton Medical Center.
