Where do we even begin?

For adults over the age of 55, hidden (or not so hidden) trip hazards can turn a normal day into a life-changing event.

Here are ✨5✨ ways to "fall-proof" your space today:
1️⃣Install nightlights in hallways and keep a lamp within arm's reach of your bed.
2️⃣ Remove area rugs or secure them with non-slip backing, and keep electrical wires tucked away.
3️⃣ Don't rely on the wall for balance. Ensure stairs have sturdy handrails on both sides.
4️⃣ Schedule regular vision and hearing checks. Your senses are your first line of defense!
5️⃣ Never use a chair as a ladder. If you can't reach it, don't climb for it. Keep heavy-use items at waist height.

From medical assistance to daily support, our Home Care and Private Duty services are designed to keep you safe, healthy, and independent.

Thanks to YOU, another successful Share the Love event is in the books!

Because of you, we sold over 1,000 gourmet box lunches and cookies, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Newton Meals on Wheels. This helps nourish our homebound seniors every single day of the year.

A huge behind-the-scenes shoutout to our NMC Health kitchen staff and leadership team! They were rolling up their sleeves together to prep the food and pack every single box to make this happen.

Our celebration of excellence continues! We have two more BEE Award winners to recognize from our recent three-way tie, and today we’re shining a spotlight on Adrian, a physical therapist with Home Care and Private Duty.

Sometimes, the right expert makes all the difference in a recovery. When a patient returned home facing "constant and unbearable" pain that seemed unsolvable, Adrian stepped in and changed everything in a single visit.

In the words of the grateful patient:

"Working with him has helped me beyond words. He is fantastic."

It's one thing to provide therapy; it's another to provide a breakthrough. Adrian, thank you for your dedication to getting our patients back to living their lives!

Help us celebrate Adrian's work in the comments below!

Todd Tangeman, NMC Health Chief Operating Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer, was recently named the Volunteer of the Year for the Metro Board of Directors at the Greater Wichita YMCA's annual celebration.

"I was surprised," says Todd. "Being named 'Volunteer of the Year' is something special; I view it as an honor, really."

For Todd, service is simple yet profound: "To me, services means freely giving of one's time, energy, talent, and skills towards the benefit of others."

Help us congratulate Todd in the comments!

The History of Newton Medical Center

More than a century ago, Dr. John T. and Lucena Axtell founded Newton’s first hospital, Axtell Hospital. For four decades, the Axtells served the community until they passed on the hospital to the Kansas Christian Missionary Society. At that time, the name was changed to Axtell Christian Hospital, a Christian Church/Disciples of Christ organization. At the turn of the century, Reverend David Goerz and Sister Frieda Kaufman founded Bethel Deaconess Hospital as a mission of the Mennonite Church. Mennonite deaconesses remained involved with the hospital’s operations until 1983. On Jan. 1, 1988, the two hospitals merged to become Newton Medical Center.
