Tamika Garrison, Director of Faith and Community Engagement, shares the meaning behind the beautiful artwork and events pictured here: “The heart is both physical and emotional, and just as we can take materials of various qualities to create something beautiful, we must give ourselves permission to take parts of our grief and brokenness and mend them into something lovely once again.”

For years, Harvey measured his life in doctor's appointments and hospital visits, trying to stay ahead of his cardiac condition. He wanted three simple outcomes: to feel better, to stay at home, and to be treated as more than a diagnosis.

When he connected with Carolina Caring’s , he found a family of who not only took the time to know him, but also slowed down long enough to hear him.

“I know my body better than anyone else, and when I tell you how I’m feeling, or what I’m experiencing, your team listens to me,” he says.

The care provided by his team became the foundation for his future. Harvey received personalized management, access to effective medications, coordinated care plans, and a seamless transition to care when comfort became his top priority.

"He never feels micromanaged," says family member and caretaker, Robin. "You all are partners in his care. That’s the best thing about hospice.”

More than two years later, Harvey is still at home, enjoying time with his family, and receiving expert support from a team that knows what matters to him. Recent national conversations around fraud and abuse in healthcare underscore the need for strong oversight and accountability across the industry. Dr. Mehmet Oz, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), recently noted that efforts are underway to safeguard the integrity of taxpayer funded healthcare programs.

As a nonprofit organization, our mission drives our work. We are committed to transparency and responsible stewardship in every decision. We believe hospice care should always put patients and families first, and that quality, compassionate, ethical care is the standard that every serious illness provider should meet.

Programs such as Certificate of Need (CON) laws play an important role in supporting those standards. Maintaining as a CON state helps ensure thoughtful expansion and continued access to high-quality, essential care for the people we serve.

Accountability strengthens healthcare. Transparency protects patients. Ethical care honors families. That is hospice done right.

Carolina Caring & Carolina Caring Foundation announce the expansion of Bamboo Health's Ping services into .

Thanks to generous donors, Carolina Caring Foundation received $25,000 to support this expansion, opening 1,000 additional patients to real-time care coordination through .

Ping has already proven its value in , after a grant from CaroMont Health Foundation helped us launch the service in 2025. This technology allows our teams to identify our patients the moment they arrive in an emergency room, ensuring continuous, whole-person care no matter where their serious illness journey takes them.

“We’re proud to partner with Carolina Caring to support more seamless, coordinated care,” says Blaine Vardoulakis, Bamboo Health. “By leveraging Pings’ real-time care notifications, care teams gain the visibility they need to respond quickly, coordinate transitions and improve outcomes for patients across the continuum.”

Thank you, for your continued partnership & investment in the enhanced patient experience.
